I change Pro Plan to Natural Choice Large breed adult for about 2 months, but I foung out they drink a lot of water, even early morning 5:00am,not only one dog , all of them drink a lot of water, should I worry?
They are young 4-5 years old good health and good eater.

If you are worried, go to vet and have them checked for diabetes and/or kidney problems.

My dogs have been drinking loads and loads of water. Seems they can't pass the water bowl without taking just a 'sip and drip'.
If it was just one dog suddenly drinking more I might worry, but it is that time of the year!

petoasis, if u feed them on 'dry food', expect them to drink as if 'planning a trip to the sun'. Mine drink also drink alot each time i placed her on dry food. It's normal 4 dogs to drink much when feeding dry.

My GSD's are on a all raw prey diet. I tried Nature's Domain. Just a small amount in the morning to hold them over til 4 when they normally eat. I've never seen them drink so much water in my life. I tried a couple more times to see if it was a fluke or not. NOT. Everytime they eat dry kibble of any kind, they can't drink enough water. It's nut's. I no longer feed kibble of any kind. Not quiet sure why it is, maybe filler or some type of salt. I know there's alot of potato in it. Feed raw and be done with it.  Hope this helps.   Take Care    Pete

   petoasis,

IMO having them checked for diabetes and/or kidney problems is a little premature if other symptoms are not present and they are healthy otherwise....Not likely that both dogs have become diabetic or have developed kidney problems at the same time. Now, anything is possible, but IMO not too likely...

I switched two dogs from Natural Balance to Earthborn Primitive and they had a marked increase in water consumption for a while after the change....I contributed this to an increase in protein ( I was told protien causes an icreases in thirst I am not 100% that it does) ...I think there was a thread about increased thirst related to food changes. Search the database you might find some other opinions....

Dogs fed dry kibble always drink a lot of water in comparison to raw fed dogs. Add summer to it and you may have dogs that drink all the time.  I wouldn’t jump into conclusion that something may be wrong with them. If you want to be sure – give them wet food and see if the amount of water they drink changes. I'll bet it will.
