Hi Everyone:

I have a male that has these silver stripes over his back (Bitch Stripes) and mainly on his spine area. I just wanted to know in terms of show competitions, is this going to be a negative point for a male or not and also does it to do anything with lack of pigmentation?!!! I also read somewhere that neutured males have got bitch stripes as well so I got a bit concerned that if there is a problem with my male?!!! I would really appreciate if anyone could help me with this. and also just wondering if they going to spread more by aging?!!! because my male is only six months old right now...

Many Thanks...

your male wont even have his adult hair at this point.....and a picture would help to see what you are talking about...but most sable and some saddle backs have a visible separation of color towards their spine...regardless if they are male or female.

If he has it at this age he has it. Expect it to get larger as he matures. It certainly detracts compared to a male that has solid black.

Pigment is somewhat a seperate issue. Color vs. where the color is. If he's got a stripe and the fur is massive red, not a problem with pigment. Yours being silver sounds like pigment may be an issue, but you really need to see what the rest of the coat looks like. If he's really red behind the ears and through most of the body, it's less of a detraction.

The solid black saddle is more desired and all dogs are combinations of desired traits. No dog is perfect. Some have more of the desired traits than others.

does it look like this?  silver coloring of the neck/back?

or does it look like the dog in foreground....silver down the back all the way down?

my male is the only one (out of my dogs) who has black undercoat on his back, his hair is black by his skin than white in the middle with black tips..creating a silver look...he was lighter and looked very sable when we got him at 7 months once his puppy fur was gone he actually got darker and became very red...this picture does not do him justice on how deep red he is....except on his back it remained lighter.
