I know this has been posted before butI have tried every horse product available and it seems they have become imune to it or something.Every morning I reapply and by afternoon about 15 flies are eating at each of the tips of each of my poor GSD's ears.Does anyone have a solution I havent heard of?

You might want to try VIP repellant available on the internet, Deep Woods Off, Flysaway or mix citronella and vaseline.

Get some pink SWAT from your horse supply center and smear some on the ear tips. It's about the only thing that works for us.

I live in Florida, extreme heat, extreme humidity and rain is a paradise for flies, I solved my problems with installed Fans blowing all day long, at Night they all sleep inside an A/C building.

SWAT wound ointment for horses works great to prevent fly bites on ears, and also to heal already-bitten crusty and sore ears. It is a wound ointment with fly repellant. I put it on my dogs' ears about 1X/week. It does come in clear as well as pink - both work just as well as the other but I prefer my dogs to have non-neon pink ears so I use clear. highly recommended. molly

flysaway cream i used it and worked couldnt believe how quick it worked the other day

Yes but doesn't it seem that the longer you use a new product the more ineffective it becomes? This is what I am realizing lately,or maybe I have some different type of flies, maybe a mutant species, lol.

by Blitzen on 23 July 2006 - 17:07

It's like that for fleas too, Lisa. The companies that manufacture the sprays and dips needs to change their formulas from time to time. Fleas are almost bionic. "Flysaway" always worked with my dogs, but it would certainly make sense that the flies in your area no longer repelled by that brand. I also noticed that some dogs seem to be bothered more by flies than others. At one time I had maybe 15 kennel dogs and the flies only bothered about half of them.

Try Pet-Guard with sunsreen (insecticide Gel). Repels flies, mosquitoes and gnats on Dogs, Cats, ande horses. Have not been here for a long time because of illness. Sure has changed??? Why you all got so mean and nasty? Andy

Welcome back,A Miretello.Hope all is well.Yes it is that way sometimes.Im almost waiting for someone to say what a horrible owner I am to leave my dogs outside in the summer.LOL.Blitzen,I have noticed too that the flies bother some more than others. They seem to target the females like vultures on roadkill.THANKS TO ALL,FOR THE ADVICE.I have switched to the pink Swat for today, see how it works then I'll try the OFF.
