Is this an act of desperation? Why should he start now?

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2011/07/17/national/w085805D02.DTL

(07-17) 08:58 PDT WASHINGTON (AP) --

President Barack Obama took his family to services on Sunday, walking out of the White House and to a nearby church frequented by presidents.

Accompanied by his wife Michelle and daughters Sasha and Malia, Obama walked through Lafayette Square to attend the 10:30 morning service at St. John's Church.

Obama wore a dark-colored suit, while the first lady and Malia wore shades of purple and Sasha a floral green and white dress.

Obama has worshipped at St. John's previously, as well as at other churches in the nation's capital.

A pew nine rows back from the altar at St. John's carries a small brass plaque designating it as "The President's Pew." Church history claims that every president since James Madison has visited.

For SM, whose comprehension of the English language is clearly as wanting as the standard of education in the state of Texas, your question was answered in the very excerpt that you cited.

"Obama has worshipped at St. John's previously, as well as at other churches in the nation's capital."

A little more due diligence would have revealed that Obama has been to church eight times since he became president:

http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2011/07/obama_attends_church_in_washin.html

From the above link:

"Sunday was the eighth time Obama attended church in Washington since becoming president."

SM, here's a challenge for you:

How many times did Bush W or Reagan go to church while either one was president?

It does involve having to actually research a little but even you would be capable of finding the answer!

So in response to SM's question: "Is this an act of desperation? Why should he start now?", I ask the following question:

Is SM really as semi-literate as she comes across repeatedly?

for obama to actually make the news by going to church is the amazing part.

did reproters find it worthy of a news feed every time nixon, ford, carter, bush, clinton, bush attended a house of worship? maybe once or twice but not every time.....

if i remember right, not that long ago he asked that a cross be covered Georgetown.....geeeeeeeeeeee how things have changed!

this is just another ploy for his re-election campaign....what a pitty.

hahaha Sitasmom you are the one who is desperate and it's evident by how petty and bitter you are about President Obama,  it's truly funny.  Now she's criticizing the guy because he went to church, or because he doesn't go to church as often as she thinks  he should, or because she thinks she knows why he went to church.  Who gives a shit.  It has nothing to do with the presidency.

Oh, Kim is just mad that she can't "report" that he regularly attends a mosque. LOL. Keepsthefaith, you are so right about the literacy level. Sue has the desperation spot on. This is so sad.

SM, how many times did Reagan, Bush HW and Bush W atttend church while president? If you can answer that question, it will help you in terms of the media attention that their church going received. I selected the last three Republican presidents to determine the media attention they received vs Clinton and Obama - the last two Democratic presidents. I am willing to wager that you will not want to comment on the church going frequency of Reagan and Bush W for obvious reasons............... LOL!

Re covering the cross when Obama was at Georgetown U, when all else fails why not resort to FACTS? So here is a link from FACTcheck.org which tells you more than you will have the attention span to read:

http://www.factcheck.org/2009/04/obama-at-georgetown/

Here are a couple of excerpts:

"Georgetown University spokeswoman Julie Green Bataille: In coordinating the logistical arrangements for yesterday’s event, Georgetown honored the White House staff’s request to cover all of the Georgetown University signage and symbols behind Gaston Hall stage.

The White House wanted a simple backdrop of flags and pipe and drape for the speech, consistent with what they’ve done for other policy speeches. Frankly, the pipe and drape wasn’t high enough by itself to fully cover the IHS and cross above the GU seal and it seemed most respectful to have them covered so as not to be seen out of context."

Second excerpt:

"CNSNews.com noted that while the "IHS" behind the president’s podium wasn’t visible, "the letters ‘IHS’ are posted elsewhere around the hall approximately 26 times" and that Obama mentioned Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount in his remarks."

Mystere & Sue, could this be the explanation for SM's "desperation"?

From the latest Quinniapac poll:

President Barack Obama tops all leading GOP White House hopefuls, hitting the all- important 50-percent mark against every candidate but Romney:
  • 47 - 41 percent over Romney, unchanged from June 8;
  • 50 - 38 percent over Bachmann, who was not matched against Obama June 8;
  • 53 - 34 percent over Sarah Palin, compared to 53 - 36 percent June 8;
  • 50 - 37 percent over Perry, who was not matched against Obama June 8.
Pretty amazing, given the unemployment rate, etc ............ but SM there is hope yet: run an anonymous (unnamed) Republican against Obama and he/she would win! LOL!! Just make sure it is not any of the bozos who are presently running for the nomination!

Seriously, the "desperation" evident in SM's postings is really a strategy that the extreme right wing has used for decades: use distorted information and outright false information and hope that some of it will stick. And some of it does: eg the whole death panel crap that Sarah Palin threw out as being a part of health care reform!
