I have been encourage by the dog press to support local open shows, however after the weekend I fear I my not. I entered my bitch, a bitch that has done well wherever else she has been shown. She didn't place and didn't even get checked by the judge. Speaking to an older observer at the ring side, he was disgusted by the examples of gsd that had been placed, one was brindle, another floppy earred.
Is this really how it should be?
I am not much heartended by the discussions that go on about the bigger shows, my bitch is enetered n the near future but is there any point?
I am not affilliated to a well known kennel, she does not have a well known name, I know no judges.
She is a nice bitch and has potential, however if the show scene is so corrupt, should I just save my money and get a boob job?
Comments?

Well the Boob job might get you better placements..lol
just kidding..I stopped going to smaller shows a long time ago...expecially because my dog wasn't from a big kennel name. It is very political..if you do go, don't worry about placement, just do it so your dog gets socalized to the show enviorment, and she will do better in the large show.

hi - i used to show -- but you know something -- .. i asked myself .. WHAT FOR -- my dogs are as they are -- either of ghood structure and temperament .. or not -- they fit the standard or not -- so tell me -- why do we have to parade around the dogs ?? -- even breeding --- you have good sires/dams -- the pups will be placed into homes --- and if you cannot tell whether you have a good GSD -- you shouldn't be owning to breed or show to begin with -- you have doog GSD people will want to your dog for stud --- so soemone -- explain to me all this show bit -- did you ever see a horse , dog show without the politics anyway ?? i do not do GSDs for money -- they are not a commodity to me -- i think we would all be better off if there were no shows !! and i would say with assurity -- the GSD would definately be better off !!

Of course there is a point to it all, where else would you get the experience of paying between £10-£20 for being shafted at shows.Don't forget that if we mugs never entered these shows then there would not be enough shows to go round for " gods chosen few" to share the cc's amongst themselves.
Unfortunately the system of shows has over the years corrupted itself, most all breed clubs obviously have show people running them, they pick the judges, and 9x out of 10 they would appoint a friend, so what does this friend do, well he feels that he must thank the people responsible, so thats where you get committe members being put up.then the never ending spiral begins, you were put up so when you judge you return the favour etc etc.
with british national judges( by that i mean that the odd foreign judge might buck the trend)you will find it very hard to find many NEW faces winning the cc's.
For the obvious reasons already stated on this board, if you are not a champshow judge, don't own a recent german import, what good are you to them.
so yes there is a point, you get to travel all over the country just to come nowhere.

Well my first question is how did your dog do well in the other shows? What political pull did you have there to influence youe results. If you had none. I'd say you just had a bad day, can't win them all.
To really assess your situation you need to provide some details. What type of show was it? What type of dog do you have? Who was the judge? Which dog is yours? Etc...
If you had a German dog in an AKC show. We may have the answer without much debate.

DOG1 -- -- yeeeeha -- -- i just had a hearty laugh -- so true your words !! goodness - the AKC ?? _A _Kangaroo _ Court ?? hmm -- the GSD standard -- the world wide standard .. height /weight/ color / character/ angulation , right ?? -- How odd .. you can't place with a dog from getmany /belgium/ czech .. because they have their view of the GSD .. you know .. the one's with the little narrow beak heads , down on rear hocks .. and of course those barrel out chests -- SEEE folks --just how much a farce showing can be ?? -- Dog1 you made me think and laugh --

oh forgot to add -- remember a few years ago .. the German shepherd that took Best of Breed/ BEST IN SHOW in the WESTMINISTER DOG SHOW N.Y. USA -- ?? -- even a novice could see not 1 .. again not 1 anatomical structure correct, ie to standard with that dog -- of course it was worth 1 million -- goodness graciuous -- spayed my pet GSD was 10 x a better representation of the GSD !! --and that dog got to do commercials etc etc -- AHHH my Roman , GSD , wouldn't have wanted all that publicity anyway -- no he wouldn't want the papparrazzi looking after him i'm sure -- HA
