I often wonder why dogs like this end up on Craigs list:

My husband's colleague gave away an expensive GSD (Schutzhund III) that he imported from Germany on kijiji. He didn't understand the commitment involved in owning a strong-willed, high drive dog.

Funny you bring thiis up. I have met this dog before when I went to watch our local K9s training. Before working with the police K9s the trainer laid him a track. His name is Tyke, He is a VERY high energy dog. He is really fast on the track and seemed to be a great prospect for SAR. I hope someone gets him who can continue his training. Not sure why he is being sold, but I do know the girl who owned him was fairly young.

SAR folks should take a look at him...

Thanks for your input KellyJ!  I sure hope he finds the right home and continues his work!

Reading between the lines he sounds like a dog with some fear/nerve issues and that is more of a showstopper for SAR than anything; you can't have a dog that has to get used to things, even if he is a good tracker. If you want a good working field lab there are many that can be had in shelters. {this is a lab cross}

If he is as good as reported, why don't the police take him for a detection dog?

On Craigs list perhaps because the dog is a mix of Lab & Shepherd.
