Hello Everyone,
I need to purchase some training equipment for Cisco and would really appreciate your suggestions and advise on retailers and manufactures.
First here is some background on Cisco -
Pedigree: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=709417
He is 4 1/2 months old.
Been to the Club a couple of times and played with the flirt pole and a jute puppy sleeve.
He bites deep, hard and quiet on the puppy sleeve.
My Goals for him -
First and foremost he will be my wilderness SAR partner.
Second, I would like to achieve the BH, AD, RtH and SchH1 titles.
Finally, I would like to get him breed surveyed.
Tug -
Should I get bite suit material, leather or Jute?
Single or double handle? Does the double handle pinch the mouth?
Size????
Agitation Collar -
Leather or Biothane? Pros and Con's
1 1/2" or 2" width
Was thinking about getting one with a grab handle.
Sleeve -
Looking at the Redline K9 puppy Jute sleeve.
What is the advantage of jute vs bite suit material?
Leash -
I have a 6' leather leash.
Do I need a 4' Obed. ?
What length should I get for working the protection phase? Was thinking about a 10' for now.
I know I will eventually need a long line but not yet.
Are there any other lengths I need?
Ball - ?????
Is there is any other equipment you think I will need to work with him at home?
Thank you for reading my post.
I look forward to reading your replies.

My favorite places to buy dog equiptment are: EliteK9 and SignatureK9
I have been very pleased with everything I have recieved from them. I love my Biothane harness from Signiture K9. I also have an ASAT lead from EliteK9, and after using them I will never go back to using real leather. They are very easy to clean, they are soft, but strong! Doesnt stretch and waterproof!
Elite K9 also makes a great ball on a rope: http://www.elitek9.com/Elite-Working-Balls-with-T-tug-Handle/productinfo/BA01
I also use the orbee ball. It is good and has a minty scent. My dog LOVES it! It is very durable but not as durable as the

Also Ray Allen has a leather alternative called RAM-Tech which comes in a neon orange color. That would be great for SAR!

Mary and Kelly,
Thank you for your responses.
Mary - I looked at the thread link you posted and it had some good suggestions. Thanks for the link :)
Kelly - You are the second person to say they will never go back to leather after using the BioThane.
After giving it some thought I decided on a 15' bright orange Biothane long line.
Several of my SAR team members use the Orbee ball and love it. (I could not remember what they were called, but that is the ball I am ordering)
I am still curious as to what you guys prefer in a tug. One or two handles? IMO.....Seems like a two handled tug would pinch the mouth some. What has been your experience?
Also, what treat bag do you prefer? Right now I use a small fanny pack with the treats in an open plastic baggie, but it is hard to get to the treats quickly.
Thanks Again,
C

Let me be the third person to say I REALLY like those alternative leather lines.
For a tug, I've switched from the typical jute/linen role to using the Ruffwear Guordo rubber toy with rope. It promotes firm biting grip and develops bite strength, and with it's nubs you can hold it with your hand firmly to twist and apply pressure. You can also throw it pretty far, like a ball/rope toy. At a later age then introduce to a jute two rope-handled bite pillow (roughly 12x12x5 in.).

Two handed tugs.
No treat bag, just training vest or cargo-type pants with pockets.
Mary
Btw, I still prefer leather.

I asked my Ex last week, she couldn't remember. She was going to ask a club member and get back to me.

Our SAR group here won't work with you if your dog has any type of bite work
