Exactly, the reason I leave my cage open and/or I lock my doors.  I hope the dog is ok.

So much for the car jacking scenario....lol

yeah I hope that dog is ok too.
I can only think of bad things when a criminal has the balls to steal a police car with a K-9 in the back.  Dog probably went nuts the whole time he was in there.

Was the Police Dog crated inside the car? I agree with Ace952 that the dog probably was going nuts that he cannot do a thing.

Mine is never crated and good luck to anybody trying to seal my car when my girl is inside…

In some states I believe the K9 is considered a "Police Officer". If that is the case I would hope he could be charged with kidnapping, among other things.

I doubt he will be charged with a crime in relation to the dog. Not that I dont think he should just dont it will happen living in San Antonio. I will keep posted if the local news reports anything else. They have already taken this off the website for other news story's. Lots of crime. The sad thing is looks like this happened in the day time. Temps at 100 easy, that dog was very hot and I am sure got over heated going crazy in the back with this guy driving in the front. The KP units here are mostly very dark tinted windows hope he is ok.

My brother-in-law had a gsd many years ago who was pretty protective.  One day he went wandering around town and was begging goodies from the usual place Mike would stop for lunch. (they all knew him).  Mike's buddy was a cop, so he whistled to Dawg and opened the back of the patrol car.  Dawg jumped in and they cruised to the Police Station.  There  the cop went inside and called Mike to let him know he'd picked Dawg up and would bring him over to where Mike was working....    quite a bit of time passed, and Mike got another call from the cop... "Errr... do ya think maybe YOU could come over and pick Dawg up??  He won't let me back into the cruiser!!"   needless to say he got teased for some time... Dawg just grinned.
