I have a German bred male. Is it normal to have a "bitch stipe" down the center of his back?

I always called it 'WEEDING' on the back.
My pup who will be 5 months in a few days, has a few lighter hairs on his back. His pigment is very good.
I would think that it should not be a problem. Is the dog lighter pigmented or washed out?

He is 4 months old. He has a dark pigment, but I can see the lighter hair under the black hair down the middle of his back. It is not noticeable yet, but my fear is that it will become more promident. Pictures of German Shepherds do not show the top of the back. This is why I am wondering if this is ok?

Do you mean the brickling?? where white/silver hairs come thru the black??
Never heard it called a bitch stripe before, interesting.. I've seen it in both males and females..
But should not be a problem unless it turns all white...and that's not likely....

DKiah, it usually shows up more in females, hence the "bitch stripe" name, but can show up in males too. I had a little black & tan female with a bitch stripe. Since her mother was sable, I can't help but wonder if it was connected in some way. As to the original question, it doesn't seem to violate any parts of the standard on color and won't impact the dog's health, so probably you shouldn't worry about it.
