DON'T POST HERE IF YOU ARE JUST GOING TO BASH MY THINKING ABOUT THIS!!!!

I know Schutzhund is intended for GSD's and all, but I just want to know is it *possible* to do Schutzhund with a small dog... get it titled and such?

No, I'm not talking hockey-puck - sorry, Chihuahua or Yorkie small... like a Sheltie or something similar....

Dogs of any breed, even mixes, can compete in Schutzhund today, but the most common breeds are German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, Rottweilers, Dobermans, Cane Corsi, Giant Schnauzers, Bouvier des Flandres, Dutch Shepherd Dogs, Beaucerons, American Bulldogs, Boxers, Black Russian Terriers, Airedale Terriers, and the like.

The dog obviously has to have the ability to do the physical aspects of the sport...jumps, protection...etc! I myself have a GSD! I would like to hear what others say! :)

Providing  it can do the work in all 3 phases, including  the metre jump, the same dumbells used for every dog,  the stick hits, etc., all the same, the rules as well as the judging would be the same, no allowances for small dogs.

My boston loves the sleeve, but he is unable to do some things like the jumps that are a specific measurement and not according to the size of the dog therefore would not be able to be titled? I have not tried tracking with him and there is no way he could do a AD lol

You would lose the points from whatever he couldn't do, same as any other dog.

I have done Schutzhund with my ACDs but would not necessarily recommend them as it can be difficult to find one that can do the work.  Here is my young girl at about 17 months doing some bitework (about 2 minutes in):

Never going to be on a podium and right now we are focusing on finishing her UD up so no  SchH training going on but she sure is fun to work.  Plus, you have to admit she was pretty damn cute as a puppy :-)

Thanks for all the replies guys.... and I love that JRT video. I'm definantly more of a big dog person, but wow he's cute! x3

So basically any dog has to go through the same thing as everyone else, correct? Does anyone know if a small dog has ever been titled in SchH?

I'm trying to go through all of the things in my head that goes on during Schutzhund... Since I personally have never done it, I'm sure I'm forgetting things. The obedience would be no problem for a small dogs, but the retrieve over the jump could be rough.... although a lot of small dogs have some pretty good lift. It is slanted, like a reallly tall A-Frame, so I suppose if they got a running start they could maybe do it? I don't see what would be wrong with bitework, other than the stick hits, so you'd need a pretty sturdy little dude if that were the case. I'd think tracking would be fine.... all dogs have good noses... some better than others.

Do you think a Schutzhund Club would let you join with a small dog?

*talk about getting laughed at at the dog park*
