When I came to pick Bailey up it was suggested by a vet I leave her overnight...
So I picked her up Thursday morning...she had some drainage and she was too sore to be wiped/cleaned up.

Her temp. was good, minimal swelling...
Here is the incision day after surgery.. 




after getting to her bed she stayed in it for most of the day, i applied some ice packs to the area....


She also had her dewclaws removed....

everything was going well....she was getting around even went off leash outside on a sunny Saturday...



and than Sunday came....

 

I decided that her bandages needed to be changed, so left the house to pick them up....when i came home some 40 min later..

she pulled all of her stitches out.....at first it did not look so bad, skin was actually holding shut, she pulled them 4 days too early...but as she tried getting up top part came apart....when she hopped around the gap kept getting bigger and within 5-10 min from time i came home we were back out heading towards animal hospital....i actually did panic...thank god for my husband who lifted her up and put her in a Jeep and off we went....spending our Sunday evening in a waiting room..


some 4 hours later.....and a lot less $ in the bank account...Bailey got "zipped" up...


hours after anesthesia...and with a "permanent" E collar now on her neck...she was very goofy....she wanted to go play with other dogs, she wanted her ball, she wanted to run on hardwood floors...so after stern "BED" command, she finally lied down..



She was restless most of the night.....so i did not get much sleep either....i do think that her new bandages look great on her..LOL..

so, how did you guys spend your memorial day weekend?

 

Why not consider a Bite Not collar as these are better tolerated than an Elizabethan collar? The cheapest I can find are at Amazon:

Ladyfrost, how stressful! Good you got home when you did, but damn, what an ordeal. I'm surprised they didn't use staples to close
the incision in the first place. I guess not standard procedure??

Oh Lady!Frost! Poor Bailey!  Yes, I hope you find a suitable alternative for that dreaded necessity, Bailey looks positively perturbed!

Thank you guys....i am considering going platinum blonde by the end of this year.....when i got home and saw her i felt my hairs tingling and I knew some grey were just popping up left and right...LOL

I am dreading coming home.....with her you will never know what you will walk into....I am sure more photos to follow...

Speedy recovery for your gal. Ive been down the "Nah no staples for me" stuff. Have had a couple of males pull them right out after a neuter. I cant even imagine how painful that was. I have an herbal treatment that I used to stave any infection and the site didnt even scar. 

I agree, where you are, its late enough to have a drink. Once you've had a couple, life will be all better. Better yet share some with your gal and she will be better too.

Sorry to hear all that. Glad she is ok and hope that she has a speedy recovery. Long stressful weekend for sure.

Dang! LF, I feel for you....nothing sets the nerves to rattling like a newly chewed open incision! Especially when you consider how much it must hurt, both the dog & your wallet! I am SO-O-O-O thankful mine are not terrible chewers. Kali's tail is pretty much closed now with no collar needed, & Ansgar never bothered her incision after her belly surgery. One thought for you, did the vet give you any pain medicine for Bailey? My vet surgeon said to keep Ansgar medicated, because if it hurt, she would chew it; so she got the doggie version of Ultram, which is tramadol. And she didn't chew at all. She was kept very stoned for about a week, but it was lazy stoned, not playful stoned.....don't know if that would make any difference?
Anyway, hope she gets better really fast, & you only have 'look how she's healing' photos to share! Good luck, go grab that cold one! jackie harris
