Hi
Well i finally found a supplier of A type of Raw food for Dogs, It comes as complete so it says on the package in tubes or a sausage of 1 kilo packs Frozen in ground meat form.
It is basically Meat in 4 forms Beef , Chicken, Offal, and a mixed meat and Offal, In it is Vegetables and Fruits. It has been around for some time by all accounts and i got it from a source who feeds it to his dogs, looking at them they seem in good condition etc so i am trying it out with Gina . So now she has had it along with the Kibble to get her system used to the change three days of both, now two days on the meat, Her Stools have not changed at all in consistency just a little less Poop comes out at the moment,
I can hold 100 kilo in a freezer so that i will order tomorrow, and give it a go,
If her condition remains as good as it is on Kibble, then i am on to a winner because i will save myself nearly 25 dollars a month food for one dog, Once the Pup to be gets going he to will be fed on the same food if it suits Gina then possibly Goran, so all being well i will save 50 dollars a month and if the Dogs keep well we all win
At the moment i am feeding Gina a Kilo a day in two feeds 50% morning 50% night any feeding adjustment will be made as the time passes on

I never thought I'd see this from you. Let us know how it works out. Dog food is so expensive in Europe... the savings is probably a huge bonus.

Steve,

Congratulations.  I hope it works out for you financially and healthwise for the dogs.

Could you please post the ingredients?

that's great news steve!  congrats!  just a few comments that could possibly help you or save you some time in the process:

1.  the easiest way to switch is cold turkey.  that way the body isn't trying to process 2 totally different types of foods.  and raw food is much easier to digest (i think about 95-98% bioavailable...someone please correct me if i'm wrong), so your dog doesn't require a gradual transition.

2.  how to switch cold turkey - skip a kibble meal (or two depending on your dog), and then feed the next meal totally raw.  for the first few meals you want to feed meat and bone, without the organs.  then add organs to the meal gradually to avoid liquid poo.  if you like (depending on the dog), you can add some acidophilus/probiotic/digestive enzymes to the food for the first few days.

3.  feed one protein source for about a week or two until your dog's system is adjusted.  then switch to another protein source for another week or two.  after the dog is adjusted you can feed whatever you want, whenever you want to, in any order or quantity (with exception for organs).

4.  you should see a change in stools in about a week after feeding all raw, no kibble.  this also depends on the food and ratio of bone to meat to organ.

5.  the dog MAY go through a detox period with some shedding, eye goop, or even a hot spot in extreme cases.  considering you were feeding orijen (?) or another premium brand kibble i don't think you will have any of this.  but just in case, so don't get freaked out or upset.  also depending on the quality of the chicken for example, you may find some itching.  all can be tweaked or fixed.

6.  if you start to see itching, or brown dirty ears, or anything unusual after the switch.....in my experiences (and i'm sure many can agree) it will be due to the fruits and veggies.  that will be the first thing to cut out of the diet before making any drastic changes.

and i'm on board with michelle.  if you could post the ingredients that would be helpful.  and if you have any questions or run into any problems, please let us know!

Hi
I am not going into ingredients, just to say she is fully on the Meat food which contains 71% meat
I will see how she takes it no problem eating it, I never have problems of any dog eating what it is given any time, Given a  fair chance so tomorrow i order 100 Kg of it thats 3 months for one dog. If she goes on well after say 4 to  6 weeks and she looks as well or better than she is now then i will start Goran on it as well.
Later on all being well the new Pup then i will save money, but only if the dogs condition stands up that is the most important thing, Suffice to say this firm has been selling this food in Belgium for the last 25 years, I will let you know how it goes, At the monent Gina has come into her first season, that alone will be interesting.

So now 8 or 9 days have gone by feeding Gina on Raw, what has happened her coat has gone dry and no shine, her eyes lack the shine they had and her nose is dry, and yesterday she threw up an hour after being fed, So the raw will be stopped and she will revert back to the food she was fed on, My brother said he is not having his dog used as an experiment when it shows that she is not reponding to the change, It could be the type of raw does not suit her but there is no other options for us , However before anyone shouts i fed a dog on raw in 1949 before most were born it is not rocket science to feed a dog on any type of food what matters most is what is the more suitable for each dog

Too bad it didn't work out for her Steve.  You have to do what is best for her and seems her old diet.

Hey Steve, sorry it didn't work out for you, no one can say you didn't try.  Hope you didn't buy a whole lot to start with, or at least have  someone who will take the leftovers off your hands.  I'm with you all the way, feeding a dog is not rocket science.
