Ok, my DH's laptop just shut off for no good reason. First time I"ve ever experienced this. I can't get it to reboot no matter what. I had just performed a virus scan and repair, (because my spyware stuff said it was affected by a trojan) about 1 hour before this happened. It is a bit hot, but not overly so. It is an ASUS computer and does anybody know how to do an override boot? I know how to do it with a MAC but not this ASUS PC.

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have a Mac. But one time my laptop totaly froze up and I couldn't do anything. I disconnected the battery, plugged it back in a few minutes later and it was fine. Probably worth a try.
If it's plugged in to AC unplug that also, along with disconnecting the battery.

Good Luck

If that doesn't work, move inland! LOL

Everything is so totally unplugged, and resting!

See other thread NINJA! The only water I see is from my swimming pool. ... I will admit, it is a very nice swimming pool!  LOL

Dog friendly, (gunite) too, with a spa. Just don't tell my DH. He thinks we keep the dog out! LOL You should bring the family and the dogs for a visit, and we'll top it off with a trip to Foxwoods......  We'll give  any winnings to charity for the benefit of the K9 officers. cheeky

What other thread beetree????

I'll bet your pool is beautiful. I'm only kidding about you moving.

If DH checks the filter is he removing dog hairs. LOL

Haven't been to Foxwoods in a while.

I like your idea for the K9 benefit, I actually donated enough to vest a MA State Police K9 last year. Would like to donate to vest a Local Police K9 this year. Will see how that goes.

I am assuming that the laptop powers on but does not boot.

If so then put the Windows operating system CD into the drive and let it boot from the CD. It will probably ask you if you want Windows to repair the operating system that is installed in the computer.

You may need to go into the BIOS to make sure that it boots from the CD drive and not from the C drive.

If it will boot from safe mode you can restore the system to an earlier version that worked.

Let me know if you need more help in figuring this out.

KTF  THANKS!.... DH is getting upset, I didn't want to be the IT person... I found the manual boot and did the (paper clip trick) and it didn't work. Now I'll have to see if I can find his system CD... I'll do that next.

... what is BIOS? When we insert the CD ( I found it) should I hold down the power button at the same time?

System seems to have returned! Peace reigns once again on the Eastern Seaboard! laugh

Glad that all is well.
