What size do you use for a full grown German Shepherd?
I would like to buy my first plastic kennel and noticed there is a big price difference (like double the price) between a 40" xlarge and a 48"giant.
I like the 48" wire crates at home, but am looking for something for the car.  Can I get away with a 40" or do I need the 48"?

It's crazy the price difference on crates, just because of who makes them. If you have a Tractor Supply or can have TS deliver to you check with them. I bought two (I believe the name is Remmington) I'm at work now. Green and tan, LG/XLG crate cost $46.00. Need a third one.

Where do you live?

For the car, they are all in a 500 (Xtra Large). I have room for bigger but in the car I want them to lay down and not have too much room to be thrown if we were in an accident.

I my old Ford Exploder, I fit 2 wire crates side by side........ they're 42x21x30 and for driving around its so much easier just to keep them in instead of having to constantly load and unload all the time. My back thanks me! I could put 3 of them in and still have a bit of room for equipment, lawn chair and still have the passenger seat free.

Wouldn't want to use them as all day containment, but to go to training, shows or trials they work fine.

Remmington at Tractor supply is the best I've seen. My girl is 60 lbs and has plenty of room in the large plastic kennel. 69.99 at TS. The XL is very nice and runs 89.99. i made the mistake of buying an XL ASPCA one at Walmart for a second kennel and it is cheap and smaller than my Large Remmington....very disappointing and a waste of money!!!!!

I agree; the Remington green and tan ones are nice and they seem a little bigger than some 500s. There is still no way I could stuff my 100lb-er into a 500 though. Maybe for ten minutes, but any more than that would be cruel. He definitely needs a 700.

Really Jen? Baden fits in both of my extra larges just fine for in the car and at training. No they wouldn't ship him in it, he has to keep his head down some, but he only curls up and lays there anyway. I don't crate my dogs at home, so they don't need extra room to "live" in.

I have a pet furrari that I love for it's ease of breaking down, not all the screws to undue when I need to clean it or store it.
