Symptons...
Edema - swelling of all 4 legs
Drinks lots of water
Not eating much - mostly by hand and only fresh meat and coocked chicken
Pants a bit more then usual
Still interested in a ball, but less
She was bred on March 6,8 and 12 - so she's still a week away
10 puppies in x-ray
5 years - 4th litter
I'm worried about my girl.

I never had that happen w/a dog, but it happened to me- HELLP Syndrome (rare complication/secondary disease to preeclampsia). I almost died, and so did my son, who had to be born a couple months early. Swelling, trouble breathing (because my liver was so enlarged it was pushing my lungs), nausea, etc.
Edema is not good! There's a reason her body isn't getting rid of that water. I wouldn't be on an internet forum; I'd be at a GOOD vet! What if a pup has died and she's going septic? You could lose her and your whole litter.
A certain amount of fluid retention may be normal...I dunno, I've been quite lucky w/dog breeding thus far, but I sure wouldn't chance it with the symptoms you're describing. Remember, dogs don't like to act sick, and are usually way sicker than they let on.

We did have a female with the same symptoms....she was the female that had a c-section with 12 puppies.
My vet said that he "does" see this condition from time to time...mainly in large Mastiff type breeds.
Have her checked, as we did..it is a condition to be concerned with. We needed the c-section because one puppy blocked the others from being born. Mother was fine after...took a few days for the body to absorb the retained water. BTW...she had the c-section not because of the swelling, but because of the stuck puppy.
Good luck & best wishes.

Did you check her blood sugar or do an echo?

Yep; toxemia is what preeclampsia used to be called. It only gets worse.
I didn't know if it was called the same thing in dogs, but I assume it could happen to dogs as well as humans.
So, TAKE HER TO THE VET.

We had this several times with different females, who got big litters.
Try to get her out, so she has to move more. With our females there were never a problem, after whelping all got okay again.
Good luck for the birth , the puppies will come soon, I'm sure.
