Incredible what man can do when ethics are totally put aside. I was once explaining to a well known breeder how unhappy I was with another breeder, also well known, because the dog she sent me  has a white toe and nail, can you guess what she advised me !!!
" Before the show paint the dog's nail black"

what an odd combination of stuff to drug a dog with...... Protonix and Benadryl .....

Benadryl releaves alergies including itchy skin. It also causes some drowsiness, but not all that much.
Protonis for heart burn in dogs? Never tried it, wonder if it has any side effects not seen in humans.

Its almost like the dog had a nervious stomach and was vomiting and was also dealing with alergies too.
Maybe it had food alergies???

If a person's going to drug a dog before a show, wouldn't a real tranqualizer do a better job?

A veterinarian induced vomiting in Pixie and found a rubber band, dog food, chicken pieces and an undigested Protonix pill. Protonix is used to treat acid reflux and heartburn.

Authorities say they believe the pink crushed pill found near Pixie's cage was Benadryl, an over the counter allergy medicine that can cause drowsiness.

Well, lucky thing they got that rubber band out of there!

I really don't think there is enough evidence to prove drugging. Protonix (unless it has unusual side-effects on canines) is not going to cause drowsiness or poor performance, and many dogs are given Benadryl for allergies, and like Sita's Mom said, is not likely to cause enough drowsiness to ruin the dog performance for a show.  As a matter of fact, it MAY be just what a nervous dog needs to settle it enough so that it can stand the stress of the show ring.  And, unless the pill was actually in the dog's stomach, how are you going to prove this man inteneded to drug the dog? ANYONE could have put the pill in the garbage!

I can see the judges throwing this one out of court!

My female GSD has a couple of white nails, which is no big deal in SV style shows, I've been told, but would lose her points in an AKC/CKC show. The breeder recommended putting shoe polish on them before a show. A bath of strong tea is frequently used to cover up white markings on the dog's paws before a show.

EVERYONE does it, so it must be okay, right? [rolls eyes]
