This is quite interesting because I suspect I may have a pair of identicals in a litter. I have checked with the veterinary teaching college and they don't think there is currently a canine DNA test "robust" enough to prove identical twins. But my litter has two identical B&T females. All the rest are sable and have subtle differences. The B&T girls since birth have always been found next to each other. The same weight, length, and markings changing the same day in exactly the same way.
It is most probable that the two just resemble an ancestor very closely. But I would really like to do DNA for twinning.

Were they born from the same placenta sac?.....I have seen it happen 1 time in my entire life......during whelping, helped open sac....2 puppies!...one died within the week...the other healthy life.
Those were twin puppies in my opinion...

To be identical they would have to come from the same sac. But they were C-section and the vet had the entire litter out in less than 10 minutes. He does not remember. The emergency was to save the mother and the litter. All survived in beautiful condition and the mother adopted her job as soon as she came out of the anaesthetic. But the vet can't offer an opinion here.

Crhuetra,
The living puppy of the twin, did it grow and mature normally, did you notce if it had some psychological disturbance of any sort? thanks

The photo obviously doesn't show anything interesting. But this is mother and babes.

Wanderer,
Do you think they will be emotionally linked, I mean in a special way?

I very much doubt it.

They look pretty sweet especially coming from a Sable mommy. Pretty plump

Interesting wanderer
Many years ago I helped a friend's mutt whelp a litter of 13 pups. The dam was a brindle pitbull/chow cross, the sires of the litter were who knows what but I am sure there were multiple sires. There was a lot of "twinning" in that litter but I can not recall if any were born from the same placenta sac. All the "twin" pups were born one right behind the other though so it is possible at least some were identical. The dam would have 2 pups at the same time and then rest awhile before having more. All survived with no problems.
Of the 13 pups, I can remember a few
two males, marked and built remarkably like a corder collie
two males, plain brown shorthaired pups who's father may have been of mastiff type blood
two females, coal black that I did not see grow up
two females, white with ticking in their coats (not spots like a dalmation)
I can not recall the others except the one my friend (the dam owner) kept, that one was a female and the only brindle of the bunch.
