If it isn't from boredom, then I think he might be showing you where the bodies are buried, or even the presence of some valuable mining elements. And sometimes it could be if he hears a critter burrowing just underneath and they say something rude just to be stupid like, "Na Na Na you big dumb dog!"

My 9 month old does it and has dug up the in ground water hases for the yard. (thank goodness im renting)
It pissed me off as I rarely caught him. I just let it go after awhile. Even if you keep them busy they will always find time to dig.

Some dogs just love to dig! Sometimes dogs dig because it's hot outside and they want to lie down in a cool spot. I thought mine was just digging for the hell of it, until I noticed that every single hole (about 15...) that he has dug in the yard has a piece of cut metal fencing at the bottom. He digs down to that point and stops. Apparently the people who installed the fence long ago just dropped the left-overs and Jack is graciously pointing out where they are ;-)

Many years ago, one of my females actually dug a tunnel beside the house. I had a fenced yard and she was an indoor dog, but she just loved to dig. I let her have her fun and filled the hole in when we moved, took me all afternoon, LOL.

My old male has a nose like a bloodhound, when he was a pup he would always dig and bring something up from the hole. He went about a foot deep once and brought up a spark plug socket. My grandson would be playing with him in the yard, tap the ground with the toe of his shoe and the dog would dig like a prairie dog until he was told to stop. It was so much fun to watch that we just shoveled the dirt back in after we all had a good laugh.

My boy loves to dig to. He thinks that he is putting on a show when he does it. I just sit back and laugh. I just hate him getting all dirty and then he wants to come right back into the house.

What you got to do is EXERCISE yor dog more. Get him tire, he is so bore, and trying to do something. Next is cut us nails it will help. My bitch did it at one point, but once I started to do more exercise with her it stop! Also get him more toys to play, it will help a lot. Have patience and it will be solved. Good Luck!!!

Yes ballons filled with water; then cursplash when they find them.
