Just received my renewal and " you may not belong to a competing German Shepherd Dog organization in the United States " ....Why would they do this ??

you are about 2 years late on this subject/

Just search 'Johannes Amendment' and you'll get the whole story in bits and pieces. I think everyone is tired of talking about it. Things have been pretty quiet for a year or so. You may want to look at your options before you renew your membership.

What are the options? Which GSD club provides the most versatility in the sport as far as trial entry and competition among other organizations?

First of all I think it's important to support both organizations. This country is big enough for two and they both need support now more than ever.
I'll give you the readers digest version of what's evolved over the past year or so..... Both organizations have worked together to get rid of the obstacles created by the JA. With the acceptance of the GSDCA-WDA scorebooks, the JA has now successfully be legislated around via a joint effort of both USA and the WDA.
The JA still stands and most likely will remain in the USA bylaws since there's no reason to undo it now. In order to participate in all the events in both USA and the WDA one needs to join the SV or GSDCA and the WDA, get a GSDCA-WDA scorebook, have it certified by USA. With this membership, and scorebook combination you can go anywhere, enter everything.

If you don't like USA or the GSDCA (WDA is not a "competing breed organization"), you may join the SV.

Are you able to only get the SV's hip rating done through GSDCA/WDA? I have wondered why not through the UScA if so.

by Dog1 on 25 April 2011 - 01:04
Both the WDA and USA will send your x-rays to the SV. You or a co owner must be a WDA member to send them through the WDA the last time I checked. USA hasn't announced if they will accept affiliate WUSV membership and process x rays for non members. I suspect you must be a member. I can't say for sure. The SV requires members to go through either the WDA or USA if you are a US resident unless your dog is in Germany.

You can get SV hip and elbow ratings through USA too: http://www.germanshepherddog.com/breed/a_stamp_program.htm
It does state you need to submit a copy of your USA membership card along with the xray, etc., but I don't know if that is current info. Best bet would be to call the USA office.

politics suck!
i'd prefer to support both clubs....and not have to choose.
