Bhall,

I won't comment on the hips, even though that is what this thread was for, as I really don't know enough to comment...BUT, I must say, he is breathtaking!heart

good looking boy.  It is possible his hips may tighten up with weight loss and steady slow exercise and conditioning - swimming would be good for him, long walks and exercise in deep sand would be good.  It is possible the loose hips are a result of poor condition and overweight on the joints.  If not, then they won't tighten up - if they don't then I would be surprised if they would pass OFA.  I would get the weight off and get him conditioned then retake x-rays in 6 months or when he is 2 years old and see what they look like then.

Bhall, if he doesn't work out for you, I'll take him. He is absolutely STUNNING!

There's a whole lot of laxity and possible some remodeling in the right side. I would say strict diet and a whole lot of swimming and pray for the best....... He is beautiful, why are people so stupid - 40 lbs........ poor guy!

B,

He is a beautiful boy.....I love his expression.

Is this the Voodoo x Grace boy in your other thread?

Yes, this is the Voodoo Grace son.  He is beautiful and LOVES to work. Already doing good on narc boxes.  He may just go on the road for a PD.  He is a sweet boy on top of that.  There is actually NO remodeling when you see the actual X ray.  Just the laxity.

Wow, that's great.

Makes me want to go over and take a look at Voodoo.........lucky me I live in Albuquerque.

I've never understood the mentality of some people thinking it's ok to allow their animals to become obese....idiots!!!

My elderly neighbor friends adopted a 4yr. old their golden retriever...He weighed 75lbs when they got him (he looked great). Last time they took him to the vet he weighed 98lbs. After having the, your hurting him by allowing him to be so heavy talk, I finally convinced them that he needed to loose some serious weight. He is now on a reduced diet of diet dog food and a limited number of treats per day.

Just a suggestion, but in addition to the swimming, I would give him Glucosamine and Chondrointin(sp?) supplements (if your not already).

Good Luck, would love to see some before and after pictures when he's ready.

PS. you have some really nice dogs on your web site :)
