Keith Grossman

Axel has this thing about going off on anything with wheels...I first spotted it when he was about 4 months old and attacked the shopping cart at Lowe's.  I realized that at some point I will need to start training him for the AD and that would involve biking with him and have dreaded getting him accustomed to the bike.  Today was the day and I was sure it would end up being a come to Jesus meeting.

Again, he surprises and impresses me...zero drama and he trotted along next to the bike like he's been doing it his whole life.  We did a quick couple of miles through the neighborhood with a full compliment of distractions without even a single issue!

As a bonus, looking down watching him move at a strong, steady, even trot at 12 MPH is truly a thing of beauty and speaks volumes about how the dog is put together.  Kudos again to his breeder, Susan...very, very nice dog.

Well you did name him Axel, so that's why he has the wheel thing going on.

Even though it's not spelled "axle," but dogs are not good spellers so he doesn't know the difference.

Anyways good luck on the AD when you do it.

Keith,

Thanks so much for your kind words...Axel is from the 6th generation of my motherline...Many years of trying to create the perfect pet, companion, working dog, therapy dog, blood donor...By perfect I mean healthy, beautiful, great temperament, fits the breed standard and can one day do Schutzhund or herding and the next day work as an active therapy dog.....

I am proud of you and your boy :) Thank you very much for getting him out there and showing him off! He is gorgeous and you guys have done so well with him..

Susan

I was so excited about our first successful biking expedition, I had to call Michael to tell him what a great puppy he's about to get!

I'll try to get some pics next time the weather is nice enough for biking.  Yes, Axel is a Ricco son.

Keith- are you using any "hands-free leash" equipment to bike with your dog? I've seen a few threads here on the Springer (Walky Dog, Bike Tow Leash, etc.) and was curious. I also came across a completely different design than those listed above but can't for the life of me remember what it was called.

No, some people swear by them but I've never used one so I can't comment.  I've always just used a regular collar and leash.
