Has anyone else heard that AKC is now requiring ORIGINAL pedigrees for foreign dog registrations?
I just had an email from a friend of mine who imported a pup from Germany. I had told him to send copies....for some reason, he contacted AKC for a general question and THEY told him to send ORIGINALS! He questioned that with a phone call and the girl he spoke to said copies. Then there was a follow up email (from someone else) stating originals!
It still says on the site to send copies.
I would NOT want to send my originals to them!

Sorry, but I will not send originals to AKC. They lose the copies alot of the times. Send them the copies, then if they ask for originals address it then, but I wouldn't voluntarily hand over originals to them. Heck took me 3 months to get 2 dogs registered I imported because the didn't have record of one of them even though both were sent in the same envelope and they cashed the check for both dogs.

I've already told him NOT to send originals unless it's a last resort!
The thing is, he's had multiple correspondence with AKC about it now.....so I advised to register in his wife's name and send COPIES (as stated to do in the site still). They can always do a transfer later if need be, I figure.
But this is CRAP if they are going to require this now!

I just registered a German Dog and they accepted the copies.

If the A.K.C. insists on the originals, go to a decent printing shop such as Kinkos and have them make a full-size colour copy and then trim it to the exact size and fold it correctly. The A.K.C. will never know the difference.
They typically instruct you to send the originals, which I flatly refuse to do. It is more money and grief to make the colour copies, but there will be no questons.

Bob-O,
I love it. Don't forget to use the same color and
quality paper as the original.

Alternatively you could send notarized copies. I don't see why they wouldn't accept these. But Kinkos is probably cheaper!!

A prime example of this just happened to me recently. I sent in the foreign dog registration application, with all the needed information, and COPIES of the originals of all required paperwork. 6 weeks later, still no registration, so I called. They claim to never have received them, although they did receive the DNA. I made copies again, and sent them via overnight mail. Imagine the mess I would be in if I had sent the originals????
NEVER send the original papers. I think USA requires the originals, but be sure to send them via certified mail or with some type of tracking, so that you can prove they arrived, and then they are responsible for them if lost.

USA ALWAYS wants originals... i would do the same thing, copy either on your own printer after scanning etc.... they cant tell the difference.... you can even laminate it, Netherlands sends theirs like that so you can do that to make it more "real"

The type of colour printer about that I speak is a plotter for large drawings such as CAD files. The specialised plotter used by Kinkos (and other shops) can scan and print-applying a tint to the entire page if necessary to achieve the proper paper colour.
