Is it normal for a female to have a thick bloody, mucusy discharge? I have never seen anything like this, it's usually just bloody. I think I am going to make an appointment to take her to the vet tomorrow. Has anyone seen anything like this or heard of anything like this? Any help you can give me would be great. Thanks. Mysti

Is the female due to come into season or has she had a season in the last weeks?

Mucus in the discharge can be a sign of Pyometra/uterine infection - take her to the vet.

I agree with eichenluft. Take her to the veterinarian immediately. The consequences of pyometria are at the least sterility, and death is entirely possible. The treatment normally consists of antibiotics appropriate for the type of bacteria, plus an injection twice per day followed by a period of rigorous exercise (a quick three-mile walk will suffice) for several days. It is usually successful if started immediately. After the treatment, the veterinarian will probably want to breed her at her next heat cycle to determine whether she is still fertile. If the damage was extensive to the end that her uterus is damaged, he will probably suggest a hysterectomy. Good Luck, Bob-O

Alright, I had a heck of a time getting her an appointment at a vet. My vet is out of town and I had to call 4 vets before I found one that I could drop her off at only and they would look at her when they could. I hope that she's alright, I didn't think it was that serious that it might kill her or cause her to go sterile. Thanks for the help, I will let you know what I find out. Mysti

Hi carebear, No she hasn't been in heat recently. Her last heat started the end of Jan. Mysti
