I bought a dog from a local breeder and my puppy has generalized mange. I was wondering if anyone has any input on what and how to go about handling something like this? The vet said it will be a long road ahead and has started the puppy on treatment. Since it is passed down from the mother shouldn't this be something that the breeder is realiable for.?

My dad has a Lab (10 yo) that has developed generalized mange every summer for the past few years.
The first couple of years he took him to the vet for very expensive treatment. For the last 3, I have started treating him with Ivermectin. 1/10 cc for 10 lbs for 30 days.
Am. Bulldogs are very prone to this condition.

Unless the parents have the condition, there is no test out there that will tell the breeder or you if the dog will develop the condition during their lifetime. There is also a hugely environmental component to the condition - stress, allergies, going into heat, etc... all can supress the immune system enough for the mites to take hold. Every dog has the mites, but not every dog will develop mange, even if there is more then one puppy from the same litter who develops it. A responsible breeder will have some kind of health guarantee, which may or may not cover mange. Best thing to do is talk with your breeder - but understand that it is not a condition that can be tested for, so the breeder has limited knowledge about what will happen as a puppy grows and develops.....
