Hi, the delivery started fine, but 1 puppy every
3 hrs.....then it was 5 hrs and the next one
Had to be pulled out. The placenta hadnt
Detached, so the puppy was alive.
Now,it has been 7 hrs and nothing, she looks
Good, good temp ....Has anyone experienced
This many hours in between puppies??....
Opinions please...i am very experienced,so all
The basics are covered..but never seen this
And dont want to try to pull puppy out nor do
C-section if its not needed and as long as she
Is fine...Thank you

My girl did this.
She did great on the first 5 and then 4.5hrs for the next one and then another hr for the next one who was stillborn.
I took her in for an ultrasound to make sure there were no more.
I would maybe check incase she is hiding some more.

She is full...this is the problem...he was alive
And had not detached, so we jumped the gun,
Because it had been 5-6 hrs already

Hed for the vet asap. Possibly one blocking the birth canal; if you wait you have a chance of loosing the rest of the litter. Good luck Nan
PS: Do you have oxitocin on hand? If so I would give her a shot now and if nothing another one in 20 minutes; if nothing see your vet. You can also give her a couple of tums tabs 2-4; gives them some quick calcium. That can also help. Best of luck Nan

did you get an x-ray prior to the whelp date? do you know how many are in there?
get to the vet and get help now, before you loose more of them.
either she is done, or there's something very wrong going on and you will loose the rest of them.

5 hours between pups is not a problem unless she starts to push. Problems arise when the female can't push the puppy out and they stay too long in the labor process. It's the time between the first push of the female and puppy delivery that's critical and not the time between puppies. I do not give oxytocin unless she's in labor and the pup is present in the birth canal.

Can somebody please reachout to "Hodie". I think, she may likely help-out. Goodluck to "owner" and bitch.

Dog1 is correct. If she is NOT IN ACTIVE LABOR, don't worry about hours. It's only if she is straining that long and nothing. My vet said he has seen cases where 24 hours passed in between pups. If she's not pushing, leave her alone if all seems normal otherwise. My one bitch always does this; has a couple right in a row, then waits until the next day usually to have the rest. It freaked me out the first time, but not anymore. If she's struggling, then intervene. But don't go pulling puppies out for no good reason;-)

My bitch did the same thing...had 4 pups 1 every hour, then 3 hours, & 2 more, & we thought she was done, but she wouldn't settle. Made up my mind to call the vet when I got home from work, but when I got home my hubby was holding number 7, born almost 24 hours after she went into labor. Get her to the vet right away if she seems distressed in any way, it wouldn't hurt to call your vet now & let them know what's happening, they can fill you in on your resourses should a crisis develop at 3:00 am! jackie harris
