Hello..........

can I please have your help with a question..................

I am looking to buy a 2 year old German Shepherd bitch..............pedigree Vegas.

I want to breed from her.....................BUT her current owner said she is having seasons / heat every 4 months.............

DO YOU think she will breed easily.......or do you think she may have problems...................if her season is not every 6 months?

Please help me !!!!!

I have bred many GSD's over the years ............. this is not out of the ordinary .............. some bitches cycle like you have listed in your thread.  Then the next question you must ask ..... Has the bitch been bred before ?  Many times first time the bitch is difficult to breed ........... I strongly suggest that you find a vet who is RELIABLE with doing progesterone testing so you know when the bitch is READY to breed then the guessing game is over.

Thankyou for that.......................they have told me they have bred from her once...........

In your opinion..........do you think she should be OK?

I look forward to your thoughts...................

Hi, I had one like that several years ago. She was only bred once. She ended up with pyometra. I suspect the frequent cycling was the contributing factor for the pyo. That would be my concern.

Hi, females can cycle less than 6 months if they have not been bred continously, as someone mentioned before....I had a case once, where the bitch cycle every 3-4 months, and could never get pregnant because the uterus could never get time to "rest" so to speak..
I will buy pregnant ,ultrasound and vet certificate done.
If you buy from reputable people, people you know or someone referred you to, you won't have a problem, I guess.
Good luck,

I have a 4 month cycler. Had not have any problems with her besides a couple irregular cycles extending over 6 weeks. Last fall my male bred to her 1 time on day 10 of her being in heat. And yes, she was still bleeding. This resulted in my oooops litter of 6 pups.

I had a female that cycled every 4 months and ended up with pyometra;  saved her and she was bred once after the pyo but I would not do it again;  you are asking for trouble as it is NOT normal and very hard on the bitch.  She ended up having an emergency C-section as the uterus folded over into the path of the birth canal and and trouble began.  All went OK but you see what I am saying, I think it is trouble.  But, good luck,  Nan

My friend has a 4 monther. She developed pyo on her 3rd heat! They managed to save her uterus, and she has had 2 litters so far, first with 9 pups and the second with 10. Very interesting that there seems to be a link between pyometra and a shorter than normal cycle!

My bitch's cycles had been at 12, 20 and 26 months, ie, 8-6 months apart.

What are the chances of her becoming a 4 month cycler? Very slim since the previous three are normal?
