I have a personal story about a little lost child and a dog, one that I was involved in.
About 12 years ago, i lived in a house with a steep back yard and a retaining wall at the bottom. I went out back to sit on the wall and have a smoke, when I heard something up on the hill. There was a tiny little 3 year old girl with long red hair and a Lab puppy, about 5 months old. I ask where she came from and she said, "Aunt Debbie's". She didn't know where Aunt Debbie lived, her name was Jessica Finn and her dog was "Darcy". I got that much out of her and wanted to get her down the hill, but didn't want to scare her. So I asked if maybe Darcy would like a drink and she said yes. So, she came down and I told her to sit there on the wall and I would get Darcy some water. I filled a bowl and called the police while I was inside. She said her Mom was helping Aunt Debbie paint and her Dad fell asleep and Darcy needed out, so they went together! I listened for anyone calling but there was nothing. The police showed up and talked to her for about 5 minutes when they got a call that she was missing. They brought the frantic Mother to the house to retrieve her and she thanked me profusely before taking her home, still shaking from the scare.
About an hour later there was a knock at my door and there stood "Dad", obviously relieved, embarassed and very grateful all at the same time (I do believe his wife made that part of his punishment, LOL). But, before he left I told him to take care of that dog, even as a pup, she stuck to the kid like glue!
Thanks for sharing, awesome story! Dogs are the best.
