Hell all!

I'm curious as to if anyone has had a female who had a "small vagina?" When I say small I mean while she is in heat the bitches vagina will not swell. There is a blood discharge like normal but the vulva will not enlarge so that a male can penetrate. If anyone has had this issue, how did they solve this issue? Was the bitch ever bred naturally? Is this issue passed on to the females born from this bitch?

From my experience I have a bitch who comes from great sound breeding with great sound temperament and health except for her "small vagina." She welped one litter three years ago which was conceived from a natural breeding. When she had her first litter her vagina would swell enough for you to tell she was in season and for a male to fit but her subsequent heats there was very little swelling. She has been vet checked and the vet says everything is fine with her she is very very healthy.

Just want some thoughts!

Thanks

I had a bitch in for breeding where this was the case. She also would not cooperate in the breeding process even though the progesterone test said it was perfect timing. So we AI"d. She had 6 pups.... 2 born naturally and 4 were too large for her to pass and she had a c-section. Come to find out AFTERWARDS, that her mother was the same way and always had to be AI and c-sectioned!!! If i'd have known that the breeding would not have happened. Funny how the breeder did not let them know this until after she had her pups!! GRRR.

BTW the vet that did the AI was the one who pointed out that she was really small and said he never would have fit anyway.

Thanks Debby!

I've talked to my dogs breeder, he never mentioned the mother having this issue  but he did mention that my bitches litter sister wouldn't stand for a male at first but now she breeds fine. My bitch had nine pups her first litter and so far I know only one female who does not come in heat after three years. The other females come in heat normally and swell normally as well. This time she was in heat we AI'd her its been almost a month we are not sure if she took but we will patiently wait. Thanks for the input!

yep, have had one of these, bitch was a 2,3 on Rikkor.  Rikkor son bred to a Burschy daughter.  she would never swell, and as far as I know, never produced a litter.  I won't keep a female who does not have normal heat cycles, and damn sure won't force breeding them by doing hormones or AI.
had another bitch here being housed, titled import, littermate just went VA1 recently.  again, would not swell, and again, as far as I know, she's never produced a pup even though she supposedly was bred several times in germany to top VA  males...
