For Heaven's sake Maggie, I couldn't watch it after the sedative was administered. I had to turn it off.

Teufel Hunde

I have worked with a few vets in IL and WI that offer this service and have accompanied them on these home visits on occasion. I always thought it a wonderful way to do things. I personally take mine to a vet I know very well (who does these  home visits too) and we do it in the back of my vehicle. This is the most quiet, peaceful way I have found because it keeps them calm and they just thing we are going on a car ride, they never even enter the office . I would have him come to the house if it wasn't for the fact the other dogs wouldn't be condusive to a calm atmosphere.

And this is news, why?  What's your point? This is a fairly common service for any veterinary practice that offers any sort of house or farm calls.

When I had to let Hexe go last year, one of my vets came to my house, got down on the kitchen floor with me alongside where Hexe was laying, and administered the injections.  I expect the same will take place when my 16 year old, Suess, is ready to make her crossing as well, unless the circumstances dictate that it happens at a time that she needs to be taken in to the clinic due to an illness we'll be trying to treat.

I had never heard of this before -- it is not done here to my knowledge.   My point was to share it with others who may be unaware of it.

When my last American -bred champion had squamous cell carcinoma (not responsive to chemo) I had the oncology ward tech from the VMTH at UC Davis and the onclolgy resident com to my home and euthanize my dog in the back yard aftera he chase his ball a few times and didn' want to play anymore. This service was free.

beardog and hexe, maybe not everyone thought of this as an option other than taking their animal to a vets office to have the euthanasia done. in my opinion i think it is much more calming and peaceful for the dog.
