Simple

If someone will pay the price, if not the price will drop

A saying in UK - " a fool and his money is soon parted"

Their worth is what someone will pay for them. Not saying "I" would pay that much for one of these puppies, but I have paid $1500 for a puppy .

I'm not a breeder but I know raising puppies correctly is an expensive venture so I am not going to bag on legitimate breeders and their prices. I've seen pet quality GSDs in my area, TN, selling for upwards of $2,000. Apparently someone is paying that cost. Years ago when I was in my early 20s, I was a dumb GSD owner and my dogs had puppies unintentionally and I had 5 puppies for 8 weeks and boy did it cost a ton of money and the stress of placing them in what I thought were "good" home, gave me a new respect for people who do it professionally. I'm not saying all breeders are good but it becomes our responsibilty as buyers to do the home work and to decided if we want to pay that sort of price. Jennifer

It's not up to any of the people on this board to decide what someone else's puppies are worth, but $1500 isn't much to pay for 10-15 years of devotion from a loving companion and guardian. Expensive is a term relative to your income. I have spent more than that on a pair of Jimmy Choo boots that I only wore once, so I certainly wouldn't think twice about spending that for a puppy if I wanted it.

What I can't understand is how someone thinks they can afford to take good care of a puppy if $1500 seems expensive. IMO, breeders need to charge enough money to ensure that the people who buy their puppies can afford to raise them. Honestly, if I were a breeder, $2500 would be the minimum I'd charge for puppies just to weed out the people on a shoestring budget.

Sorry if that sounds harsh, but economic times are tough and more and more dogs are abandoned when people are low on money.

Of course they are not. There is a reason that Germany and other countries require titles and breed dogs. As  PT Barnum said a sucker born every minute. I know a lot of people on here will start their spill about the cost an investment and how much they know and about how they can tell u from their dogs lines what they produce and yada yada yada. They are so much better breeders that the Germans and Belgiums etc that they do not have to have title dogs or hip certified dogs .

I agree with Adreya on the thought that it is not for others to decided what the value of a breeder's puppies are....I would suggest that you talk to the breeder/seller and ask why they consider their puppies worth what they are asking for them.....Its kinda like the saying, "one man's trash, is another man's treasure." I am not saying that the puppies you are questioning are trash, just that different people very have different opinions about the same thing.....JMO

Andreya....

You took the words right out of my mouth....Good post...

Now, I would never spend more than $1500.00 on a pair of boots ( maybe ), but I did spend $650.00 for a beautiful pair of quail skin Justin Cowboy Boots....I would do it again too..They were worth every penny. My family thought I was full of %&^*..lol....: )

Well, it's $500 for the pup, then another $500 for the fact that the pups' mom is also their grandmother and their aunt, and then a further $500 for the privilege of having a dirty, racist word in the pedigree.  There you go-- $1500!

OMG! OK I actually went to the pedigree links after reading Emoore's comment...and I am speechless. If I were considering a puppy from that breeder, the $1500 would be the least of my worries.

Maintaining the civility of this board prevents me from further comment; however, the price isn't what people should be alarmed about IMO because there is NO price, large or small, that would induce me to buy from that breeder.

I hope this comment doesn't violate the TOS about personal attacks, but I can't keep silent about it. In fact, I am so upset about that pedigree I almost wonder if it's just someone's sick joke and not real at all!
