Niesia

by Niesia on 08 March 2011 - 21:03

I went to the vet office for a progesterone testing on my girl and as I walk through the door, a Jack Russel terrier launches on my GSD. The terrier is on the leash, so the owner was able to pull her dog close to her and pick her in her arms. Terrier is barking at Suzi, but this in one of those little dogs so my girl totally ignores him. Everything calms down.

Surprisingly there are a lot of people with their dogs crammed in a little waiting area. Reason – emergency patch work on a dog mulled by two pit bulls. So we wait…

As we wait the conversations develops. There is one lady who started conversation about German Shepherds based on the incident that my GSD caused earlier (?!?!) . Suzi is the only GSD at the vets…

The other lady takes over the conversation on GSDs as if she was an expert in this field. I didn’t involve myself in it and just listen with my GSD at my feet. She states loudly that American GSDs are crap dogs, fearful biters, aggressive, have a lot of health problems, are over angulated, etc. She goes on and on about how great the Czech and German dogs are – truly great, easy to train, etc. So I couldn’t keep my mouth shut and I said with the smile: “My girl is pure American lines…” – She barked me an answer: “Well – she looks German to me…”

Further undisturbed, the monolog went on. She seemed to be very knowledgeable about the GSD training as well. ..

GSD expert ’s turn! She runs out to her car and comes back being drugged by a German Shepherd! The dog enters the vet office and immediately launches on Suzi, being pulled away by the owner, goes after the Jack Russel terrier. He responds, and a second later you have few dogs (big and small) going at each other in a middle of the room and all owners panicked, leashes tangled. I think you get the picture…

Suzi and I watch this with a funny look on our faces…

Finally, GSD expert sits down and starts bragging about her dog: Czech import bitch 9 years old, been bred regularly. Lady got her cheap because she was a ‘reject’ from the working litter (because of looks and temperament). She seemed genuinely proud of her ‘smartness’ and ‘thriftiness’. Puppies were selling like hot cakes…

When she left, the room fell silent and there was just one quiet comment from the older man: “you have to get me one of those…” - people laughed.
