I want to thank those of you that have shown interest in Bouviers and the nice discussions we have had. Even though I have only posted in the general topics area of the site I see there are some people that feel its just for GSD's and that is sad. I see now I changed breeds for more reasons then just my feelings on where people were taking the breed. It is sad when people become so narrow minded about a breed they cannot see anything else. Personally I would not join a forum if it were for Terriors or Toy breeds becuase my dogs would have nothing in common with them. However even though I changed from GSD's to Bouviers they are both bred to do many of the same things. Each has many wonderful traits and each excells in areas the other doesn't. Exchangeing ideas and shareing successes as well as failures is what helps everyone to become better at what we do. I wish everyone much success in their endevors and hope that one day those who feel like they are special becuase they have GSD's will learn something from other breeds as well because it can only help you in the long run to be better with your own dogs.

This forum has been a more civilized place since Oli appointed moderators, but there are some things that still badly need to change, and one of them is the way some posters treat newcomers.
I am sorry you had this experience, sjbo. I hope we can learn from it and try to do better in the future. But of course, the guilty parties likely don't recognize that they did anything wrong.

Sorry to see you leave. My first encounter with the breed was in the early days as a PSD handler. I was watching a competition and saw one hit a quarry on the sleeve. knocked him out! From then on I became a fan of the breed! they make great PSDs as well!

I wish you would reconsider, I own GSD's but I love all breeds. We have 2 Bov's in a club here and they are great dogs. Good Luck to you!

Sorry to see you go sjbo. I'm not a GSD owner either, but love the breed. Joined this forum a while ago, because I found there to be a lot of knowledge (from a dog handling perspective), than some other forums I've been on. Indeed, there are a lot of passionate GSD people on here. I think that's actually a good thing. I'm all about the preservation of what a breed was initially bred for, and I see many posters on here who endorse that. Hey...I own GR's, and I'm demonic about that breed as well. I hope you reconsider your decision. I think most importantly these forums are 1) must love dogs first & 2) must love your breed second. Have enjoyed reading your posts and responses.

I am sorry to see you go but I personally think you need to be a tad less sensitive ;-) I don't have GSDs, never had, never will - just not my breed. However, I know that there is a greater preponderance of GSD folks on here and accept that. Sometimes people forget that this is the general topics forum and not the GSD focused forum but I have never had a problem with that as many of us here predate the general topics forum....
I also have never had anyone put down my breed of choice, if anything, I have found people are interested in hearing about different breeds they might not be familar with. It is a shame for others with alternative breeds to leave as it makes the forum less diverse.
Just my two cents....

sjbo -- Please don't leave because of some RUDE people. You have every right to post about your Bouvier on the General Topics Forum, as it is for ALL Breeds. Heck, even those who own Show Line GSD's -- German or American -- are made to feel that they have "no right" to be here. Some "old time Members" claim that they had "Bookmarked" this site (obviously before the Breed-specific Forum was created) and, thus, think that the General Topics is for GSD's ONLY, in addition to the German Shepherd Forum....Duh, all they need to do is change their Bookmark !
I have enjoyed reading your posts about your dog and luvved the pictures. Please stick around. Maybe the "rude people" will have an awakening and understand they are the ones who are wrong.
