Just curious, what all do you guys use to prevent fleas and ticks on your dogs? With it being winter right now I don't typically bother with the flea/tick or heartgard stuff, since none of that is a problem here in the fall-winter.  I've used Frontline before in the past, and it never worked. I've got advantix too, which seemed to work. This time I ordered "Program" online, on that one site you guys ordered Taste of the Wild. I got the 20% discount and free shipping so it was cheaper than any other site I could find. I read quite a few good reviews on it, but have any of you guys used the oral meds before like Program?

I recently changed to Comfortis.  So simple and seems to be working well.

We have used Nematodes since 2007 and haven't had any ticks since. It is all natural and since then we have not needed any kind of topical on any of our dog's. OH, and we only had to buy it 1 time, but this year we will get some more. Just Google Nematodes and you should be able to read up about it.

Comfortis is NOT RECOMMENDED FOR BREEDING ANIMALS! It didn't work for me.
I started using Diatomaceous Earth and frontline. Seems to work for both outside and inside parasites.

djc why is comfortis not recommended for breeding animals? Is comfortis taken by mouth? Kelly I'll google that when I get back from town.

Kelly, how much would I have to order for a yard that is 3/4ths of an acre and how long do they "last" before having to get more?

Yes, GSDguy08
it is taken by mouth. It's just what the manufacturer says. don't really know the specifics... that was all I needed to hear to not use it.

Revolution is a great product! Expensive but great! It also takes care of mites.

Comfortis is given with a meal as a tablet.  Very simple. I did quite a bit of reading on it before useing.  If I remember correctly, and anybody should verify themselves before using, it is not recommended to be used within, I think, a month of breeding and until puppies are weaned.   This based on exremely high doses being given during test.   Since my female is spayed and I'm not breeding my male, it works well for my dogs.
