I recently imported a puppy that came with an export pedigree. I want to register with AKC, and on their website it says to send in the original export pedigree. I keep hearing that it is advised not to send in the original but rather a photocopy. However, my export pedigree has a holographic/hologram type seal on the front, if photocopied it will turn out black and I would think it seem obvious.  Should I just be confident in sending the original?

I sent color copies to AKC of our pink papers.... they were really bad copies but were accepted. I would try and send a copy.. the worst that could happen is they call/write that you have to send the origionals.. the best is that they accept them.

I've never had a problem with AKC registration for foreign dogs. Just make sure that you send pictures too.
All documents are always returned

For my Mal, I sent photocopies of passport and pages, chip info, export ped and pictures. I sent them photocopies everything I had actually. I had no problems. They returned nothing. (I didn't expect them too though)

I impoted my male and had absolutely no problems with akc. I sent them the requested documents and had them back within three weeks and he was registered. No problem what so ever. Just make sure you include everything they ask for. I believe they also have a check list you can use to make sure everything is sent. Steve

When you do send in make sure to send in 2 photos of dog, 1 frontal of dog standing and 1 side shot with dog standing.

I have sent COPIES of Pinks and pictures as well as copies of any other docs I have EXCEPT Certificate of Ownership, I have always sent the original and kept a copy for myself.  I have never had problems with this method.
Good luck and CONGRATULATIONS on your new import!  I hope you have fun with your new puppy!
