Captured in Florida, a fifteen foot eastern diamondback rattler. I wonder what he was eating.

Ha ha... funny enough that was right near where I used to live in FL. The St. Johns CO officers are a great bunch of guys and gals. I believe the pics were snapped a year and a half ago or so. :)

There's nothing like riding your bike to school as a 2nd grader and spotting a 5' gator in the edge of the woods. Gotta love FL.

Summary of the eRumor:
A forwarded email with photos of a captured snake saying that a gigantic Eastern diamondback rattlesnake measuring 15 feet in length was caught in St. Augusta, Florida.
The Truth:
This tale is fiction. A public information officer with the St. Johns County Sheriff's department told TruthOrFiction.com that there was an incident involving a large Eastern diamondback rattlesnake in July 2009 but the snake was 7'3" in length.

The photos, taken by an unidentified civilian, were an unintentional trick of camera perspective. The captured snake was closer to the photographer than the law enforcement officer shown in the background. This made the venomous reptile appear larger than life.

Eastern diamondback rattlesnakes in the wild have been known to grow up to 8' in length.

8' is still huge and look at the body mass on that snake.  I was wondering about the 15' claim - sort of like the gigantic "godzilla" pig, pic taken with the kid who killed it sitting down behind the pig (making it look much huger than it really was) and the mastiff picture with small girl sitting behind it - lots of pictures claiming huge gigantic animals with frame of reference behind the creature making it look bigger than it really is -

so did they kill the snake?  a shame I think if they did - would love to see how many rattles where on the tail.

They may have killed it or more then likely sent it to the St. Augustine Alligator Farm. That's who took the gator I found as a child.
