Has anyone ever had a dog develop an abscess between it toes like this? Should I take him to the vet tomorrow? He isnt favoring this foot while walking and it hasnt slowed him down any, but when resting he licks it.  I noticed it yesterday. I didnt see it before because it buried between the toes, so im not sure how long its been there.

I have been soaking it with warm rags...

Kelly,
I have had dogs get dry heads from cheat grass between their toes and look like that. But it's only in hot summer. So it is possible he has a splinter or something in it. I would take it to the vet.

Mine got a cut on her foot while working stock and it swelled up just like that.  She wasn't lame and I noticed it when I went to trim her nails.  Took her to vet and it was just a nasty infection, but it took 3-4 weeks of antibiotics to clear it up.  I also did some epsom salt soaks, not sure if that helped or not.

I just had my 6 mo old female pup Rayne with a very similar thing.  For the first two days she limped really badly and I thought she had broken her toe.  Then at day 3 she was licking it, and there was a very similar looking sore.  The first two days there was no sign of a sore.  I took her to the Vet and he thinks it was a spider bite.  She was on antibiotics for 3 weeks and it went away and she quit limping.
Good luck.. Keep us posted.

Sorry guys...I should of kept you posted!

My vet suggested Epsom soaks. It has become much smaller, but if its not completely gone by next Friday I am taking him back.

He doesnt lick it anymore. It doesnt appear to bother him at all.

Looks like interdigital cyst.  GSDs can get these.  They are caused by ingrown hair and are difficult to cure.

I have another dog with the same thing.  Rayne had hers about a month or so ago, and now Gala has one.  My Vet said a spider bite, they sleep in the same area, so its possible.

I put Gala on antibiotics and will see how that goes.
