That is usually how it happens....700 crate prices are ridiculous, and so is most of these airlines when it comes to shipping animals....

Hmmm, I always had good luck with Delta!  I did have an arguement once with them because the tips of the dogs ears touched the top of the crate but not the top of the dogs head.  I told them if this were a lab it wouldn't be an issue since a lab has floppy ears.....they still insisted I get the next size up crate sooooooo..... I told my husband to go out to the car and get the roll of masking tape and I was going to tape the dogs ears down to the side of his head so he would be comparable to a lab (I really wouldn't do that!!!)!  The ticketing agent looked at me like I was crazy but having no arguement to my dog who's ears would not touch after being taped gave up and let me use the crate!  LOL...I have NEVER had an issue with Delta since!

I had an issue with Delta about 2 years ago. I was told by numerous people in Delta that the cargo in Ft. Worth was open 24 hours every day, including Sunday so I went ahead and booked a flight for a 12 week old puppy. I got a call from distraught owners ( Distraught... maybe I should say LIVID) that Delta was telling them they were closing at such and such a time whether a puppy was coming in or not.. We both spent 2 hours on the phone with the idiots. It was finally resolved by one of the cargo people staying an extra hour to receive the puppy. My biggie was HELLO, DON"T BOOK A FLIGHT FOR AN ANIMAL IF THERE'S NO ONE THERE! Still ticks me off. I don't use Delta if I don't have to. Continental is usually about $175 cheaper on nearly 100lb shipment (500 crate plus dog)

Vicki, I have had the ear argument before with the Delta people as well and we lost. Wound up canceling the flight, buying a crate and shipping him out the next day.

I have NEVER had any problems with Continental. They even opened their cargo 15 minutes early this last time because I was early. They know me by name and are nice people.

Melba,
Continental is who we use also...Had the same problems with Delta about the ears and we lost also......So far we have had no issues at all with Continental and they are a pleasure to work with......Very understanding towards our safety  concerns for shipping puppies....

When traveling to Germany...I saw my dog get flipped down (the bottom of the crate was then on top) the conyerbelt when they unloaded the plane.  This has been about 10 years ago or so.  It was with Delta and I was in France.  I screamed when I saw it and told the service people and it did not get me anywhere.  The people that were near me though I was crazy for screaming...but what do you do.

We used Continental when we had our pup shipped. Much cheaper than Delta and less issues.

Continental is the best and they are the cheapest.  They are very friendly, easy to deal with.  I use Continental whenever possible.  Frontier is also good, no problems with either one.  Delta, United, and American are a nightmare to deal with.

Did you know that if you ship a lot of dogs, you can link the shipping to your frequent flyer miles  through Continental ? :)
