This is not to hard to explain. I raise Bouvier's and I use three different vets. All are within a 20 mile radius. One is the primary care vet that I prefer for every day things that come up. Another is very good with more serious things and then the third is one of the best surgons in the state. All of the vets have a file on all of our dogs, When I see one I fax copies of that report to the other two so they all have current records of everytime the dogs have to go in for anything. In this manor if something serious were to happen then there is not time wasted haveing to have the vet at the time do tests or take xrays and things like that becuase they already have current information. I probably go over board but I pride myself as well as my kennel and my dogs come first as does thier health. Steve

I have 2 vets.... One for regular exams, and routine shots and misc. stuff like microchipping and advice.
I have another vet for emergencies only, and that is solely because I trust my E vet and she is open 24/7, oh and her being a little closer too doesn't hurt

I call around for HC. Who is cheapest and who has an opening right now or later today? Could take up to a week to get in with my regular vet and they are 45min away.

4pack, I do not want to sound like a creep but cheapest is not always cheapest in the end. Also I would change primary vets if mine took a week to see. I have had to change vets many times over the years but now have three who will see my dogs on the day I call. The are business people too and believe me if they are careing for your dog's then they should see them at the earliest available time. I am talking emergecies not just for routine check ups. My primary always give me the option of coming in the same day or setting an appointment and that is how it should be. http://cassiopeiabouviers.com

My vet is one of  the best around, so of course they are always working with a full schedule of appointments. Everyone is clammering to get in to see them. A health cert is not going to trump out something of more importance healthwise, which is pretty much everything. Should they put a helth cert before a pup who needs its boosters or a sick dog that needs to be seen asap? A health cert is a very simple process, I would hope any vet could handle. There is no need at all to wait on a better surgeon or specialist, for a few simple looks at a dog for a flight out. If even the crummiest vet can't take weight, temp, heart rate, lung and gut sounds, and look at a dogs teeth, eyes and ears for a thumbs up, I don't know what to tell ya!.

It's the buyers responsability to again take the dog to their own vet of choice once it lands, for another once over. If someone wants to suggest a vet to me and pay the fee, ontop of the price of a dog/puppy, they can feel free to do so. I'd probably add a fuel and transport fee to that, for going out of my way. I do what fits my schedule best. If I have to pay $5-10 bucks more than the last vet called but it lands on a time that works better for me, so be it. There is just no way I am going to drive 45 mins to my preferred vets for each individual pup, if I had a litter to sell. I have to get a dog in when I have the time and when the vet has the opening. Not sure about you, but I have other things to tend to durring the day and can't drop everything for an appoinment opening in the middle of all that. I pick up the phone and dial the next vets office in the book.

This thread was about HEALTH CERTIFICATES. A great many of you seem to be forgetting that. A monkey with proper letterhead can do a health certificate. Would you, as a buyer, want to pay twice the money for a health cert and wait (possibly a week or more) for the breeder to take YOUR pup to their "regular" vet?

Anyone adept at shipping will tell you that you need the fastest health cert. possible in case of issues and scheduling conflicts.

It's even easier if your vet signs a bunch of undated health certificates so you can keep them on hand.    Just sayin.....

I was thinking about that...I am not one of those lucky ones w/a vet like that, but I've heard of them;-)
