How many dogs do you think constitutes an animal hoarder?
I have 7 German Shepherds.
3 are SchH3 and are breeding stock
2 are spayed (one is a Czech import and the other is Heidi the rescue)
1 is our 11 year old house dog who has horrible HD
1 is a Czech import male who will start training soon.
4 have indoor/outdoor kennels, 3 are house dogs.

I surely wouldn't consider owning 7 dogs hoarding..If thats the case, we have 6 so we are fixing to be hoarders also..# live indoors and 3 live in 6X12 indoor/outdoor runs..
.Vicki looking at the before and after pictures of Heidi, I wouldn't mind being a dog that lives with a hoarder like you, if that is what you think you are or been accuse of....

Yeah that is pretty funny....
..Not to hijack this thread, but since you mention vet tech, my daughter starts school next month, for vet tech.....She is paying for it all on her own, no grants or student loans....How's that for someone that was criticized for working at wal-mart and a truck stop....Which by the way it wasn't a truck stop, but a co-manager's position at a casino....Pretty good huh?

That's great! I worked at walmart for almost 5 years while I went to high school and college. I have an animal science degree. On the vet tech school.....well, in Oklahoma you don't have to go to school or be certified or registered. There isn't a big enough pay difference to justify going to school...I did all my leaning on the job! But I did go to alot of continuing education seminars also, LOVE those!

Here in Lousiana, certification is necessary to get a decent paying job as a tech...Some places will hire without it, but the pay reflects that.. The clinic that agreed to work her, requires it...She is really excited and is looking forward to it.. Of course, being her mom, I couldn't be prouder of my little wal mart, casino (truck stop
) worker....
..She might have started at the bottom, but At least she is not staying there.. She is moving on up.....

Hoarders cannot stop themselves from collecting animals even though they have limited or no means to care for them. It's a condition that should be looked at as a sickness and for the most part they do not see any problems with the way they live. They feel they are helping these animals. (I was an ACO for years) It's very sad to encounter a true hoarder for several reasons.
You certainly DO NOT
seem to fit this bill.....But if you start to alternate the days you feed your dogs because there is not enough food and start to keep your dogs crated and kept in a closet so nobody knows they are there you might think about getting help
.
You certainly DO NOT

I think there is no set number to be considered hoarding. It verys from person to person.
I think you would be a hoarder when you have more animals than you can care for. If you have so many you can not provide adequate medical care and give each one love, attention and training then you are a hoarder. For some people it may be five dogs for some it may be ten. If your home and there homes are clean and each animal is well taken care of with medical attention, food, attention (not just left in the yard or in a kennel) then you're not hoarding. If seven were the magic hoarding number a great many of us on here would be considered hoarders.

Vickie,,,,Munchhausen by proxy because you are a vet tech....??...hmmm...I fail to understand the connection there. I have heard about this " condition", but from my understanding of it I do not see a connection.....???
Our society is certainly syndrome happy...Everyone has a syndrome of one sort or another...: (
I have 10 cats, all stray babies that I bottle fed.....Guess I am a hoarder too.....: )
Deanna...: )

I have 4 GSDs that live in the house with us, sadly, none are titled, but I hope to start training again this spring. I co-own 2 others, 1 lives with my grandkids, & 1 with my step-daughter. My dogs get to the vets regularly, have the run of our small home, (although they are crated at night, frequently with the crate doors un-hooked). eat Canidae ALS mixed with ALS Grain-free,& have weekly treats of canned salmon, green beans, etc.. I love to groom them, brush teeth, clean ears, fuss over every little bump, etc.........does that make me a hoarder?
I ask because my daughter, who has my pup that I co-own, calls me a hoarder all the time. She says that because my house is small, & all my free time is spent with the dogs (that SHE knows of)....I'm a hoarder. I generally reply that maybe my dogs are more pleasant than most of the folks I know (meaning her, LOL).
I only co-own the other 2 to try to ensure that I would be contacted in the event that an emergency, health issue, or other untoward event would occur. (like the time Wolf took a bedroom door off it's hinges, or when Astro got loose & tried to 'make friends' with the neighbors GSD....both times intersession was needed. Some education, some listening, a little problem solving, & a training plan was acheived. Since those times, everyone's been pretty happy.
But I guess that's what hoarders do, huh? ***sigh***
