Umbilical hernias are pretty normal ( mom have to tug and chew the chords to a perfect size ) and as the dog grows it will more likely disappear..there are some that can be huge, but I still have seen breeding females with them and have no problem delivering..any vet will more than likely scare you into getting surgery, but chances are ,is not needed...I am a second generation breeder, so trust me in what I am telling you ( I see you keep posting same question over and over )
Good Luck

Fifi,
I Don't know what a Malteser is, and Yes, alot of dogs do fine with the umbilical hernias, but then there are those that don't and get a gut go through the opening and this can cause big problems and an even bigger expense. If it is very big, at 8 weeks old, most likely will not close and may actually get bigger as pup grows. You really should have it checked to see if your pup may be at risk at a for health reasons.
hopefully you have a good Vet that will be honest with you on this. Mostly it is just unsightly. It usually costs alot less at 8 weeks old to repair than at a later time when pup gets alot bigger if you decide to have it repaired for your own piece of mind.
Good luck.

I would be having that one repaired now to avoid your chances of intestinal loop strangulation later.
Good luck.
