What is your take on this?

I understand the argument for "large breed" puppy foods, but if you're feeding raw, let's say, there really isn't a puppy formula, let alone large breed.

I raised my last puppy on TOTW. Never gave her puppy food.

What are some of the best ALS grain free diets for GSD pups, in your opinion/experience? It's been a few years since I've weaned pups and there so many new great foods on the market.

I raise all my pups on adult dog food, generally whatever their mother is eating.  Currently I'm not feeding a grain free food though, so I don't know which would be "best" for pups.  I do like TOTW and the new CostCo grain free foods.

Canidae is a good brand and they do have a grain free ALS food.

Acana is good.  Orijen too.  It all depends on the pup and what works best.  Acana works well with my current pup.

I like the levels of Canidae grain free ALS, personally. I have weaned all pups onto raw, but started some after a while onto this and so far, so good. No Pano, no fast growth, no awkward phases, etc. Pups all get comments like "that looks like a minature GSD, not a puppy" which I like....that's how raw fed pups look. I have to say though, with the last litter, the pup who has yet to taste a morsel of dog food does look substantially "better" than the others, though they are all fed very well w/at least partial raw. Kibble feeders were shocked when I emailed them pics of their dog's raw-fed littermate.
