ping pong ball sounds pretty big - it may need to be repaired - see your vet.  Small hernias are normally fine, normally close on their own, and normally never cause a problem, don't need to be repaired.  But if it's big enough that it won't close on it's own or nearly close - it could cause problems with intestine dropping through there and becoming strangulated.  ask a vet.

Ping pong ball size in an 8 weeks old pup is BIG. Go to the vet, that one sound like it needs repair sooner rather than later.

I would still take him to the vet to see if they can do it, cause I know the Humane Society is doing spay/neuters on 8-10 wk olds in my state. If they can do that surgery, they surely can do the simple stitching of the umbilical hernia.

IMO a hernia that size needs to be looked at by a vet.

I would take him to see the vet, one that big probably needs to be repaired sooner rather than later.   Better to fix it now then deal with strangulation of the intestines.
