I know what pano is, and have experienced it before...I have done research on it till I looked like this. ....
Our boy who is now 8 months old going through this growing spurt, and  has had pano in all legs for about a month and  half now....It does the typical pano thing, going from one leg to the other at different times....He's even had it in two legs at the same time, but constantly affecting all four at different times....There may be a day or two in a row that he doesn't limp at all......We limit his exercise, give the baby aspirin and have him on glucosomine....He is a big bone, with huge bone weighs about 80lbs...He is not over weight AT ALL.....He is just a stocky thick boy.....

.The pano I have experienced was one leg at a time and then it went away for a while than came back....Than doesn't seem to be going away at all.....He was xrayed hips and elbows at 6 months old, but that was before the pano showed up....

ALL I am asking is, has anyone ever experienced Pano like this???? If so what did you do????

by Ibrahim on 10 February 2011 - 12:02

I'm sorry to hear your dog has Pano, hopefully it will go away soon, I'm sure you're doing all you can for him. I hear aspirin is not very good for the stomach.

Ibrahim, Its a coated baby aspirin.....I have used it in the past and never had any problems or after affects from it....I have heard some people say its not good, but for everyone of those, there is another one that has a different opinion....half dozen of one/six of another...

I've had Pano in quite a few pups, even after 18 mos.  Cut out the protein!  Less that 23% is best,  I feed Iams.  Their lamb and rice has been 22%, so I feed that.  Also even better is add rice.  Cook it and add about 2 cups rice to about 3 cups feed.  Of course cut down on the feed.  Stocky is not good.  A 8 months lean is proper, with ribs right under the skin.  You want to slow down the growth.  Pano is because of growing too fast.   Your pup will grow until he has gotten his genetic size, whether that's at 1 year or 2 years, so don't worry about your pup being stunted.  Also restrict his exercise.  I have put pups in a run about 5 x 20 feet while they are limping and it seems to help.  Running around a yard, playing briskly and hard makes the pano worse.
Have fun.  Alice

Salmon oil and vitamin e- awesome anti-inflammatory.

Give a prenatal vitamin once daily.

my vet told me that i could give only 1 baby aspirin (81mg) every other day - maximum - for an adult dog.

he said that it works differently in dogs then in humans, and if given too much can be poisonous. you might want to do some research before giving it....

Sitasmom, I should have noted that I don't give aspirin everyday.....Its more like every other day or every 3rd day.....Its not something I would give everyday.....Thanks for the info....

Rasenhof...When I described him as stocky, I didn't mean excessive weight stocky......I meant stocky as in muscular, not slab sided.....He is a thickly built dog......He took after the DDR side of his pedigree.....He is not a puppy that his chest measures 3 inches across....His body frame is built to carry the adult weight of 90 lbs.....His coat is so plush that he does appear to be carrying alittle more than he should....Although it does appear that way, Trust me, he does not have any excessive weight....

Trixx
.....Vitamin C with Esther was something I remembered about last night.......Ima get that today...Thanks for mentioning it....

Jenni78....That prenatal vitamin makes sense....never thought of that one..Thanks!!!

To the PM's I recieved, I have PM'd you back...Thanks to you all also.....

If anyone else have an experience like this,  I'd love to know about it if you want to share it...
