Sable, I know what you are saying, and I agree that size doesn't always spell dissaster. It is possible she will whelp with no problem. Hopefully so, but a vet can check the number and size of pups and then they can have the option of normal birth or the cisserian. Like I said you always hope a heifers first calf is small for easier delivery .

although frowned upon that little pit bitch will never be more prepared to have her litter than on her first heat. there being more elasticity of the pelvis in the juvenile bitch makes it this way. the size of the sire or his ancestors pose no problem.

Guys,  you're both very helpful and both correct, but there is not a snowball's chance in hell this guy will take her to a vet unless it's for an abortion, and believe me, I've called every vet I know of to see if they'll do it. I even told them if they don't, he will just shoot her, and they still refuse. <sigh>

Yesterday I told my bf (who often sees him at work) to tell him not to do anything stupid with her; I'll take her, and he when he told him that, the reply was that he'd already found someone to "kill the babies." God only knows what that means...not sure if he means he found a vet willing to give the prostaglandin shots, or if that means he has some hillbilly trash friend who fancies himself a canine abortionist, or if that means he will just have them culled at birth, though I don't know why he'd need help with that. He was not elaborating, apparently, and my bf got nowhere trying to get details.

He did tell me she's bigger than I remember, and he guesses based on our Pit's weights that she's around 45lbs, so not nearly as small as she was in the pic I posted. She's shorter and stockier but he says she's fairly wide, so that's in her favor, if the idiot decides to allow her to try to whelp.

Unfortunately, I think her best shot lies in being given the opportunity to whelp them and praying and hoping she does ok on her own. If anything happens that renders her unable to have pups in the future, I'm sure he'll just shoot her. I am still going to try to get her, but all that means is he'll go get another one bred...rescuing dogs from people like this simply propels the continuum. I still can't turn my back to her but there has to be an end somewhere.

Hank, you said it. He has no business having any animal. Of course, he just "inherited" all his friend's Pit Bulls when the friend went to prison. <sigh> I'm sort of walking on eggshells because of who he is, so my best bet for all is to try and play this civilly and not go militia on him, though it sure is tempting!

Jenni,
Reguarding hillbilly psy.  All I do know is that if you have an extra truck engine you are suppose to hang it from a tree using chains.

I couldn't remember if you were supposed to put it on cinder blocks or hang it from a tree. Can't thank you enough for clearing that up!!!

In all seriousness,

I would think that you would get a good idea of how big the pups were a week before delivery day.  Most dog deliver fine, if there were problems she would be in the monority.
