Hips in lots of the dogs in this dogs lines are not that good. I'd pass myself.

A superb dog, excellent pedigree. I very much like his sister too. (I am not good at hips ZW from a pedigree). But a nice pedigree, no doubt.
Do ask why the dog does not have a SCHH title yet?

Unclemick, where did you come up with that information???

I didn't go way back, but I saw no red flags on hips in the first 4gens.

Hi Jenni. 4 sets of fast normal hips in the first three generations. I'm still pretty new but isn't fast normal the bottom of the line as far as breeding quality goes? Maybe I'm wrong (been wrong lots of time before) but that's what I was thinking any way.

I always compared fast normal to OFA's fair rating....Am I pretty close to that assumption?

But I do like this dog and his sister and their pedigree.......Personally, I wouldn't let the fast normal rating stop me from purchasing this dog, if that is what I really wanted...

There are 3 passing a stamp hip ratings--normal (a1), fast normal (a2), and noch zugelassen (a3)

I think of FN (a2) as fair to good and NZ (a3) as borderline to fair. I don't worry too much about some FN ratings in a pedigree, but it might make me go look up some ZW numbers. So, if you're in doubt--go look up the dogs in the first 3 generations--www.schaeferhunde.de/site/index.php

There really IS no equivalent. Some say fast normal is like a fair, many say a fast normal is like a good, a "normal" is like an excellent, but truly, there is no universal rating equivalency scale. There are countless stories of fast normals going OFA excellent, good, etc. and a1's that are rated OFA fair, or even mild. Unfortunately, that's one of the big problems that we have with no common denominator between different rating systems.

Fast normal doesn't scare me a bit; I would look up zw's if I was concerned. What a dog produces is far more important than what the dog is itself. I would rather see a solid pedigree of fast normals, than a couple normals and a bunch of B hips or even noch zugelassens.

Unclemick, no, fast normal is not the "bottom" of breeding. Noch zugelassen, a3, is "still permissable". Whether or not people would choose to breed a3 is personal, but it is still permissible. I would breed a noch zugelassen dog if I had a good reason.

Oops. Posted same time as Christine. Yep; ditto.

Well there you go. Pretty much tells you why I decided to get Stori fixed and not breed her. Don't know that much about breeding dogs and didn't want to make a mistake and be your every day back yard breeder. Glad I posted my post though. I learned something new today (once again).
