Hi everyone,
I'd really love to see the advertisement for Vom Pars Haus Kennels removed from this site. Anyone know how I would do that?
I bought a puppy from Shawn Sept '09; was told that the parents had been hip & elbow scored and that he had the paperwork etc and that was supposedly given to us in a folder. As it turns out, this info may be in the folder and if it is, it is in German. We only checked it late in the piece once we discovered our beautiful puppy has both elbow AND hip dysplasia .
The breeder has been contacted several times via phone, email, mail and we have even placed various visits to his premises but never seem to catch him at home (He lives over an hour away from us). We wanted to see if he would make good on his health guarantee and to also see if any other puppies from the same litter had had the same problem.
We would never give our beautiful boy up but if this guy isnt doing the right thing by the breed then he needs to be stopped. Our boy has now undergone two major operations and countless sedations and therapy and is still recovering. If anyone can help out or shed any more light on this breeder then I would really appreciate it.
I simply dont want to see any more dogs go through what ours has had to go through, had he ended up in another household he may not have been so fortunate...
Cheers Nat

It should be easy enough for someone to determine what the documents you received were if you provide some of the information they contain.
As for your pup's unfortunate situation, I don't know how deeply you researched the breed, but the fact that your pup had the bad luck to be afflicted with both hip and elbow dysplasia does not indicate that his parents were not 'hip scored'. Even dogs that are rated as having perfect hips and elbows can, and do, produce pups that are affected by one or both of these disorders, despite the breeder's best efforts to minimize the risks of this happening. So just because your dog has these conditions does not automatically mean that this breeder is irresponsible or 'needs to be stopped'--there is a limit to what a responsible breeder can control, since these are living, breathing creatures who are subject to the effects of genetics that are still not yet fully understood.
Your pup is a lucky boy to have such caring owners who are committed to taking good care of him.

hexe is absolutely correct. However, if you purchased your puppy under some kind of replacement guarantee you are entitled to it. What does your contract say? Are you required to give back your dysplastic dog in order to receive replacement? That alone speaks volumes about your breeder. More information would be helpful if you're seeking advice.

Who ruled the dog dysplastic? Several vets? One vet? OFA? Another orthopedic rating system?
Sadly, I have seen SEVERAL cases where a vet rules a dog dysplastic that truly isn't, and even cases where surgery was performed unnecessarily. I'm not saying that's the case, but it would help to know that piece of the puzzle, especially if you're the breeder.

I think that this paragraph is the important part of the post:
"The breeder has been contacted several times via phone, email, mail and we have even placed various visits to his premises but never seem to catch him at home (He lives over an hour away from us). We wanted to see if he would make good on his health guarantee and to also see if any other puppies from the same litter had had the same problem."
Researching the breed and the other non-sense is a little irrelevant.
The breeder not answering his/her phone and not responding to email, or written letters, when a client contacts them about something as serious as this is very relevant!
This is what makes the breeder irresponsible!
If the breeder can't or won't take the time to respond to their client's, then yes, they should stop breeding!

A little research on Shawn also finds that he is a self-proclaimed provider of "Law Enforcement K-9's" in Australia, but, doesn't seem to know that working line GSD's exist.
He has Rottweilers and Dobermans for you also.
Oh, and here is the real kicker, according to him, he is the "Dog Whisperer" of Australia.
BYB all the way, as are the people he bought most of his dogs from.

Nothing against the Original Poster, but this was his first and only post. How do we know what he is saying is true? Am I to understand that the original poster really doesn't know what the paperwork says since it's in German and only just recently bothered to look at it......seriously??? Something isn't right here. Also, we are only hearing about this from the point of view of this one peson. Personally I am not going to pass judgement on any breeder based on the opinion and account of events given by one person, whom I don't even know.

Sueincc,
Seems like post of this nature have been popping up quite often lately, by the one time posters..I am not saying that this is the case with this poster, but it is with this type of subject....
Its something we all need to be aware of, before we go out on a limb and post a comment or oppinion..

OMG. How do we even know what "several" times means? 3 times? All in one day maybe? We have NO FREAKING IDEA what the whole story is or if the person is seriously even being ignored or if maybe the breeder hasn't even had a chance.
Who has the time to do background checks on every breeder who a customer posts a negative thread about? Our collective point is that there is not enough info provided to make a determination like that.

There is never enough info to make a 100% determination about anything that is written on this site, but, all of you (except Kelly) find the time to pass judgement on people regularly. What's the difference???
