I have no problem with the use of the dog in that video. Personally, I would have smashed the window a whole lot sooner and snatched him out. In that situation, I think the taser is a better option for several reasons. I can easily put my dog through that window and extract the guy, but that glass is very sharp and the dog will probably get cut. If a taser is available as it was there; the taser can really incapacitate a subject and save the officers, dog and suspect serious injury.
With no taser, I'm using the dog with out a doubt. That guy, a violent felon wanted for home invasion is a dog bite all day long. The escalation of force is easily warranted and justified. The dog had a good bite on the guy, which could have been very serious and even fatal. The femoral artery runs down the right leg and a dog can puncture that in a thigh bite.
I have no issue with what those guys did. They were safe and got the guy into custody. I would not have waited as long to break that window and snatch him up by what ever means necessary. I would have instructed the officer with the taser to tase him as soon as the window was broken. If the taser did not produce the desired results I would have used the dog. The taser may not penetrate the coat the guy was wearing, then it's hands on and the guy is going. Situations like that call for a swift, violent reaction and a use of force that quickly gains compliance and control. There is no playing or hesitating with violent felons. You just get the job done safely and quickly.
FWIW,
Jim
