Just wondering if anyone could tell me if a harness is allowed for tracking in schutzhund. The only thing I can find is that you can use a botcher (not sure how to spell that) or a chest harness. Not sure what they mean by a chest harness? Are you allowed to use just a normal non restrictive tracking harness?

Thanks, Kristi.

Yes, a normal harness is allowed for tracking in Schutzhund, "normal" as in:

You can also track with a fur saver collar though.

Ron, That is my understanding also. A fur saver or a Botcher can be used, no other harnesses Jim

As said by Ron and Jim, you can use a Chain Collar or Botcher harness to track with to teach the Dogs in practise.
I do not know where you live but in Competitions over here  in Belgium you can only use a Chain Collar.
You can however decline the use of a Tracking Line but must stay the right amount of distance behind the Dog if using no Line

That is interesting to here you can use a Botcher in Competitions in the States
I bought a Botcher to use with Izzy but she settled down and i have never put it on her, It  may be useful for Pup Gina though she is pulling a bit at present

Hey Steve..

Hope al is well. I started with a botcher on barack but, used it only once. I will use it on my Staatsmacht bitch. She has shown me she's a puller:-).

I use a boettger harness for my girl. She isnt a hard puller, but very leash sensitive and turned her rear side ways when the line tensioned.  This felt like a correction to her, made her unsure of the track and frustrated me. Thats the only harness one can use for schutzhund tracking.

10 month old Gina is like that,  She really gets her nose in though you can here her snuffling like a pig as she goes along, But pulls a bit so may put the harness on her. at the moment the ground is rock hard frozen but must have a go at tracking tomorrow morning first thing,
The Roads were lethal last night coming home from Training at 11.oclock it was light rain on top of frozen 6 cars we passed on the opposite side of the By Pass all in a heap. We stopped outside the house for me to get out i got one leg out just pulling the left leg out and over on my back one leg still inside the car, Just forgot it was icey for a second,
A few  Godfordumas in Dutch as i lay looking up into the night sky, but i  had to laugh afterwards
