We have received information that HSUS is planning a breeder raid for
the central Tennessee area, or surrounding areas, in the next several
days. They have been asking for volunteers able to foster around
120-150 dogs by next Wednesday, February 2. They are also asking for
volunteers able to take part in the raid. We have been told that the
raid will be in central Tennessee, but it could be in a surrounding
state close by (MS, KY, etc.). They often conduct these raids on
weekends.
Rescue groups are also at risk during raids such as these.
If you are a breeder with large numbers of dogs in these areas,
please take precautions. They may have already visited your property
to get probable cause for a warrant. At this point all you may be
able to do is remove dogs before they are seized. If you have reason
to think that you could be the subject of such a raid, please protect
yourself and your dogs. Have an attorney ready and remove dogs ahead
of time.
This message is only aimed at breeders with larger numbers of dogs
who may be targeted by HSUS in these areas.

I know quite a few breeders in the middle TN area with a lot of dogs. Although I wouldn't mind seeing a raid on their places with as many dogs as they have. They're more like puppy mills having over 40 adults each, and literally well over 30 litters a year.
what authority does HSUS have to get warrants, raid private property and seize private property?
The whole thing sounds like b.s. to me.

I'm with you. If, in fact, this warning is true and there are 120-150 dogs involved, this is a puppy mill and I'd be more than happy to hear they were raided.
Got to shut down those puppy millers some how.
I hope they are successful in finding and shutting down the "puppy mill" type kennels, but at the same time I hope that good responsible breeders are not harmed in the process. Something defintely needs to be done with the puppy mills. I've seen dogs that have from those places and I can tell you that anyone who loves dogs or has an ounce of compassion would be horrified.
I would think that the breeders who are within the local or fed laws with clean facilities and good reputations arent ging to have any trouble. I,d imagine those who are worried or become nervous have issues that they don,t want advertised.
Bob unfortunately you are wrong. Anyone who has dogs is in danger of HSUS coming in on them. To be considered a "hoarder" you need only 10 ANIMALS. Not just dogs but a combination of all animals including farm animals. HSUS has become way to powerful and they have an almost unlimited budget and it is all tax free. They are very dangerous and have almost the same power as the IRS. If you belong to a dog organization maske sure they are up on legislation and are working to protect dog owners rights. We have several here in Michigan and one of the strongest is the HUnting Dog group - any one can join, not just hunters. They have a strong lobbyist and fight all pending legislation against hunting/ breeding and dog ownership such as BSL. Currently there is legislation pending here in Saginaw County to ban 10 breeds GSD's included - interestingly there will be NO public meetings held on this issue. We are also facing legislation banning "hobby breeders" unless we can prove our dogs are all kept on concrete in buildings which can be disinfected, your home, your bed. a graveled run will not be acceptable. Dog owners/Breeders are facing a major up hill battle and we need to be proactive not reactive or it will all be to late.
Hate to be the one to break this to you, Judy, but you're the one who's wrong. Consider my post on the German Shepherd side about the logistics of maintaining the number of dogs mentioned: at the low end of the spectrum, these people have at least 120 dogs. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt and say that 2/3 of those are puppies from large litters...say, 10 pups a piece. How many people would you imagine it takes to properly care for, feed, water, clean up after, exercise, provide mental stimulation for, train, etc. 80 puppies and 40 adults?
I'll not argue that the HSUS has too much power and that it is often abused but situations like this give them credibility in the public's eye so if you support this "breeder's" right to run a puppy mill, you support the very circumstances under which the HSUS maintains their position.
