So, I have a pick pup coming in from Europe (8 wks old) and after picking him up we head home. I had to work in the evening and the pup was in good hands with my friends. So in the early evening, they said he was beginning to cry and was getting a little louder so they assumed right and figured he needed to relieve himself.

Well, while he assumes the position, they notice what looked like the form of a object. then, they see what looked like a reddish cord. At this point, they see that the pup is struggling to continue so they immediately begin helping by slowly pulling out the obeject.

Ready for this, it was a COLLAR. The pup ate a collar. The breeder, reputable, more than likely did not ship the pup to the pet carrier with a collar. Somewhere between the pup arriving at the pet broker and the pup arriving at Frankfurt, someone put a collar on the pup. This was not only dangerous, but espcially during the flight and subsequent fecal relief session.

Today, the pup seems much better and had a pretty exciting bonding and play tugging session.

When I go in to have his rabies shots, I will have the vet look into his internals.

I don't know if anyone has ever heard of an experience like this, but curiosity mixed with bewilderment and dissapointment fills my mind.

I have not experienced this, but I am alarmed that too few people seem to appreciate the dangers of something around the neck of their puppies and dogs.

A co-worker left a choke collar on a puppy in a crate!  She came home to her dead puppy, strangled.

A friend left a 10 month old in a crate with a collar.  He came home and found a nearly dead, strangled dog.

Another acquaintance came home to find her puppy hooked to a bathroom dog by her leather collar -- trying to get free she had thrown herself into and out of the toilet many times.

A guy with a bad temper kept a prong collar, believe it or not, on his rottie all the time.  One day he pulled too hard (he probably pulled too hard many days) and punctured a vein and the dog died after losing a lot of blood.

Collars are dangerous on so many levels.

It wasn't being shipped, but I had one puppy eat the collar of of another. Luckily he was still in the motion sickness stage and puked most of it up after a car ride. The last bits were passed easily a few days later. That is the only puppy who ever ate anything strange like that. He also ate a few bandages off of his leg after eating the ecollar (cone, not shock) from an injury to his leg.

I had a Rottweiler who ate EVERYTHING!
One day she managed to reach a 4foot long, braided leather lead (that hung on a wall beside her crate)....
Could not figure out where the leash was for a couple of days??!!.....
While I was waiting to pick up her sh-- , I heard a loud "plink!"....went over, poked at the sh--, and it was the brass clasp from the lead!!.  *She ate the entire lead, and crapped out the clasp*.
That Rottweiler lived to 12 yrs old.....she was never sick, and was horrible about eating "stuff".

I'm picking up my new pup tomorrow. I'll put a collar on her for the 4+ hour drive home so I can put a leash on her for potty breaks. The collar will come off as soon as we get home and she probably won't get another to wear for a loooong time. Most of our dogs walk around "nekkid". We've also had a few friends come home to a dead dog due to a collar.
I do dog daycare here, and you would be shocked at the things I've discovered coming out of a dog! I'm always amazed that the dogs are just fine after, if it was my dog I'd probably be paying for a $3000 surgery of some sort.

The two sessions of Guess That Stool I've had were with Beckett. He ate a scrunchy, my hair tie, when he was a pup. I was frantic. He grabbed it right out of my hand, thinking that hair brushing was a game, & took off with it, hoping I would chase him. When I told him, "NO!" the little rat ate it in 1 gulp. I gave him mineral oil, & that night, sure enough, he crapped a navy blue scrunchy. The other thing he ate was a stuffed animal, I don't know where that came from, but he crapped cotton batting for 3 days. The only dog I ever had that pooped snow. And he was fine, afterward. After that, I dog-proofed my house completely, like I was on a mission.  And I still had a girl develope an intrasusseption. But that was not from a blockage. **sigh** That was the one that cost $3800.00 (the surgery, that is) Go figure. jackie harris
